Fella's;

I bought my 81 900F new in the spring of 1981 & have owned it for the total intervening time. What turned me to the bike was the Cycle Guide magazine article on a comparison between it, a Kawasaki and a Suzuki. Shortly thereafter, I also seem to recall a Cycle magazine feature on a 24 run they used to do at Willow Springs, in which the 900F also came out on top.

I was wondering how many other original owners are represented on this site? And, of course, the important information about what color did you buy? Was it the obviously faster black/orange, or the "my girlfiend liked it better" silver/blue? Or did you sell it & now lie around in the Barca-lounger reading AARP magazine?

Bought my clearly faster Blue 11f new in 83. Was waffling between the Suzuki and this, and eventually decided that the Honda is/was the best looking motorcycle I'd ever seen. Still think that.

Actually I am the 2nd owner but the bike is so different than the PO, that I feel it is an original anyway.

The reason I'm posting is because I scanned that article and Glenn posted it in the Technical Documents section. Here is the link to it:

24 Hr Test Article - Click Here

I have both a copy of the article (loose pages) and the entire Magazine from back-in-the-day. I would be happy to send the magazine to anyone who wants to relive some nostalgia and look back at the advertisements and other things happening during that time period. I only request that you make a commitment to get it sent back to me when you are done reading it. Cool

I also have a better quality scan in PDF format of that article. If someone wants it, just send me an email and I'll send it along to you.

Dave

I am the original owner of a 1983 Blue CB1100F purchase in Groton Ct, It has been residing in Mi since 1986. I wanted to get a CB900F after my 69 750 was stolen in San Diego in 81, but the Honda dealers only had the 900C.

Although I've never liked bikes with Fairings when I saw that 1100 on the Honda dealers floor, I paid cash on the spot.

Being that I was 7 in 1979, and 11 in 1983, I'm a bit too young. Razz

Got my '79 750F in October of that year. I chose the black but liked the silver too. The dealer had the '80 models on the floor at the time but I went for the '79 as the speedo was correct for a performance machine! Still got it, all stock*.

Not the orginal owner, but bought it (from the dealer) in 81 with a couple of ticks over 500 miles on the clock. The original owner had it for about two months but decided it was tooooooooo much bike for him and traded it in.

Does that count???

I bought my silver CB900F from Honda of North Hollywood in August 1981. I still have the original sale paperwork. Paid $2700 and received a $200 rebate. Used the rebate to purchase the sport control kit shortly afterward. In 1984 I found a used sport fairing and installed it on the bike.

I rode the bike constantly for many years, hardly using my car. It has not seen much road use for the past several years, but that is about to change.

I bought my 750 as a leftover in May of 1981. I bought the sport kit after they had a feature on it in one of the magazines of the day.

My bike is a true survivor . Shortly thereafter I found my self w/ the responsibility of a wife and son. My bike was in a relatives garage on the south shore of Long Island during Hurricane Gloria (1985) with a flat rear tire.

Before the storm hit I went there and tried the best I could to protect the bike from the coming storm. I managed to put 4 cinder blocks down and put a 3/4 inch plywood sheet over them w/my bike on it's centerstand on the makeshift spacer.

Well the sea water came up on the land and reached about 18" inches deep on the garage walls . It went just barely under the engine on the bike. A near miss. Water had gone under all the houses and covered the street.

I went there afterward and immediately scrubbed the wheels with soap and water. I was happy It made it . The centerstand is a little worse off from the storm though

I'm the original owner of both a 82 750F and a 83 1100F. The 750 was purchased in Jan. of 83, a year old and brand new on the showroom floor. The 1100 came along in Jan. of 84,..again a year old on the showroom floor. I basically put myself into debt to make myself stay in Fort McMurray, Alberta (where both bikes were purchased). At the time I was not really impressed with Fort Mac so went out and got into debt as a means to help make me stay there and thus stay employed. The 750 was the first major purchase I made. I was putting a few hundred dollars down on the bike every pay day while it sat at the dealer. The plan was that I'd have it completely paid off come spring time. Well the timing didn't work and I was short so I went for a loan so I could get the bike on the road. When I got to the bank the loans officer asked me, "So your buying a motorcycle....how much do you need?"

"$1600.00 dollars." says me, the balance owing on my $2600.00 750F with Sport Kit installed.

"$1600.00 dollars?...says him. "You don't need a loan son,..ya need a credit card!!!"

And that's how it all started.

The only pictures I can find of that time period is the one below. At this point it must be into late 1984,..the 750's got a Vance and Hines pipe, Derale oil cooler on it. The 1100's had a American spec fairing installed but retains the stock pipes.

You'll have to show up at one of the NorthEast Rides... And meet all of us geriatric riders... This fall, it will be in Oneonta, NY.

And most of us will be able to show you young whippersnappers a thing or two about riding... Razz

I bought my 900F new in Aug.'81.
Paid $3,000 in Ventura Ca.
Has been running every day since then.
After reading the mag articles in that year, I put the stage 1 kit from Kaz Yoshima, (OMT 4/1, k&n filter and rejetted.
Here it is 62,000 miles later, and still runnung strong. Burns a little oil, (valve guide seals) but very reliable.

Bought my 900FC on August 1st 1982 in the UK. That was the date the new registrations happen, so it was a Y reg. Shipped it to NJ when I emigrated in 1997. Then moved to FL, CA and now MI. Been through various modifications including a Hondaline fairing for a while. Now back to almost fully stock save for a Saxon Racing swing arm and braided steel break lines.

And here she is in Wisconsin

Bought a new 750 in 80 and a new 900 in 81. Sold the 750 a few weeks after I bought the 900. Sold the 900 to Bob and bought a new VF750F in 1983 (big mistake)
Image

Here is a picture of me about 40lbs ago.

Image

Bob rode the 900 for a few years and then bought a Ninja. I came across the carcass of the 900 in a bike scrap yard a few years back. I could tell by the stickers that Bob had put on it. Almost brought tears to my eyes...

Bought the rear sets off of it and still have them so I can say I still have part of it.

Here's Bob with the 900F many, many beers ago...

I traded a 1980 XS1100 and a 1977 XS400 (still wish I had that one) on my 1982 9004 in May of 1985. She was a left-over and still in the crate at that time.

I parked it mostly in 1988 and she didn't run at all after 1989 until the fall of 2005. She was parked with 1500 miles on her. She now has about 6100.
