During the years, my bike has had 15(!) owners. One or more of those have had the motor apart at some stage done something inside there... Nice idea, trying to save some weight? Dunno. Anyone any ideas? Pictures explains. Maybe a good tip to Captain or other performance builders? The lightened chain slider (above) is several grammes lighter than the full size, heavy one (under). I was planning on keeping this mod a secret, but what the heck. I'm not likely to compete racing with anybody on this forum, so here it is. The mod is obviously an easy, non expensive one...😊 |

I'd say 2 things
1. poor design
2. lack of maintenance (cam chain adjustment) |

I guess it's a result of bad/wrong design?
The strange part here is that the missing part wasn't inside the motor. A previous "mechanic" have removed it. The shorter part was mountet upside down (beleive it or not)!
How long time do you estimate a new original slider will last? (the one I have got already is not an OEM. It's said to be better than original)

If it’s one of my V & H Racing Curved Guides it will outlive the engine in normal circumstances

The stock A cam chain "guides" were more like bumpers than actual guides. I've seen people write about broken ones before. Also read a guy had his 750 cylinder block damaged from lack of proper guide design and cam chains that were apparently never adjusted or had broken adjuster. Cam chain acted like a saw on the cylinder block in the tunnel, causing an oil leak out the front of the motor. Amazing, the chain didn't break. http://www.cb750c.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=135636#135636
Captain's guides are proper chain guides, and stop the chain from whipping. |

Yes, I'm fully aware of this flaw. But I've decided to limit my budget here, thinking of the fact that the bike will have a easy life from now on. I thrust the oil pickup mod will make things much better. Also, the chains will get the proper service intervals from now on.. After all, it has run 63k km till now, and probably won't be run more than 3k km/year the coming years |
