Thinking about a TL1000S back in Utah when I head back there next week. Supposed to be i great shape and low miles.
Anybody had any experience or know any that had experience? |

Yep....a buddy had a 99' very fast bike at 125 HP but the suspension was sloppy...change the shocks out and it's a nice bike... |

They're cool and fast, but definitely from the "lower tier" in terms of build quality. Nowhere near as nice fit/finish as say a GSXR.
The rotary damper rear suspension is the achilles heel, but they can be blueprinted for much improved performance. I took a long look
at these back in '98, ended up buying a SuperHawk instead.
If you like it and the price is right, go for it!

I've had mine from new in 98 . . fantastic bike . will never sell her. .as mentioned ,the rear rotary damper is not that good . plenty of other options out there . .the front forks and brakes work well if looked after . plenty of easy upgrades if you feel the need . .the frame can crack around the rotary damper . . have a good look for missing heads on the mounting bolts . . if it is cracked a different damper set up will get round the problem. ..general condition is the key . . if it looks like its been looked after you should be OK . they need regular oil changes . .nearly all Tl engines make a ticking noise . is normal . but listen out for knocking under load . . this will be a big end bearing . . more common on 97 model. . the 98 got revised oiling . |

It all depends on if you like 2 cylinder bikes.
I have owned 3 TL1000S as I was convinced the more I modded them the more I would like them. I was hoping that they would be the beast that everyone said but unfortunately they all left me wanting more. They sound great though but I sold them all.
I guess I just like 4 cylinder bikes but I do have an RC51 too which is fantastic & revs like a 4 so I guess it suits me. |
