Greetings from SC. Just picked up a '79 CB750F from Craigslist. Unfortunately the guy selling it had chopped it up a good bit to attempt a cafe racer...he got a little happy with the angle grinder. I'm rewelding the frame now/soaking carbs/red kote application to the gas tank/etc. He also installed a set of those RFY ebay "shocks" that you guys love so much. Pics attached are from the ad listing before he chopped it up. I'll take some current pics later.
The guy who owned this thing before him seemed to have taken pretty good care of it. Frame off repaint, lots of carb parts and stuff in little tupperware boxes, extra frame/engine/parts from another bike. Maybe one of you guys will recognize it? It was in the Shelby, NC area at some point according to some of the receipts. |

Welcome! I sold my F this past summer to help fund the wife's cancer treatment. I have a FEW things left, not much. Let us see some pics. Not sure if Jay over at M.I.D.S. has much left for these bikes. I'm over in Florence. |

Here's some pictures as promised. I feel like this thing had a good owner at one point, fell victim at a halfway house, then landed in my garage. Gonna try and get it back as close to a version of well running stock form as I can. I've got a truck load of spare parts/engine/frame/and two sets of comstar wheels so off to a good start. Thanks for the welcomes you guys!
Sorry to hear about your cancer fight unclet1. I work in medical imaging; hopefully your team is able to perform some of the miracles I've been able to witness over the years. |

Thanks. I'm pretty handy at handling most everything that stands in front of me. My main issue i'm staring down right now is the charging/ignition elephant in the room that has been well covered here and on other forums. My current plan for that follows:
35w H4 Bulb
LED Tail/Running/Turns
Venting the Stator/Rotor housing
Fresh electrical connections and connectors
Iridium NGK's
CBR coils with newer ignitors from something?
Some kind of ammeter to keep and eye on all this stuff
I've spent too long reading unfortunately and have put myself in a position where I question the integrity of the charging/ignition system as so many seem to have done before me... |

Good call on those coils...I own them now...gotta get off the interwebs for the evening.
Also picked up some deoxit. Needed some for the connectors on the DR650 anyways. |

I just picked up a set of F3 coils for my new project, so knew what to look for. They did not look as clean as the ones I linked to above that you bought though! There are several posts about how to mount them. On my last project I just drilled another hole on the frame web for the forward mount, then used the mounting hardware from the old coils. Others have fabricated new brackets. If you look closely I think you can make out what I did from this photo:
Oh, the thing that is almost as much enjoyment as working on your own bike is reading about others working on their bikes! So, make sure you post your updates here with pictures!
Regards,
Chris |

Just about at a stopping point on this guy. It has turned into my daily rider for about two weeks now, but feeling a move to a new project. I'm thinking of moving to an old Goldwing or something...we will see what my craigslist addiction has to say about it. I'll be posting this one in the South Carolina area craigslist this coming week probably. Pictures of my stopping point to close out my previous posts since unfinished threads are never fun to browse...
Things done to save it from the previous owner/condition:
F3 Coils
Electrosport Igniters
Electrosport Regulator/Rectifier
New plug for stator
New rebuilt rotor from Tim Parrot
Swapped the chopped frame to the spare unmolested frame
Red Koted the inside of gas tank
New petcock
New pads and caliper rebuilds front and rear and new style front master cylinder
New fork seals and fresh fluid
Fresh tires front and rear
Swapped all bulbs to LED
Reverted 55w headlight to 35w
Fresh valve cover gasket and valve clearance adjustment
Fresh oil and honda OEM filter
Fresh air filter
Full carb rebuild with Randakk's kit following the excellent carb rebuild manual hosted on this site and others
Maybe that's it? I'm sure there's more, but that's all i've got for now. I've put around 1,500 miles on it and have had some fun on it. The craigslist monster beckons though.... |
