Refinery fire/explosion?
Changeover to summer/winter blend?
Market fluctuations?
Because they can? |

I googled it. Guess there are some pipes leaking at a refinery in Chicago so they are raising gas in Michigan up to .80. |

.80 extra for a couple weeks should give them a couple hundred million. That should be enough to fix a few leaking pipes |

Was on news tonight. BP refinery output cut in half with some issue. You're screwed. |

Lucky, once again us poor old colonials are getting our arses screwed again. $2 a gallon, about 50 cents a liter, we have not seen that sort of price in well over 20 years, and they keep shoving down our throat that we are the "lucky country" |

About 2.50 / gallon for 87 octane here in New England, 2.80 or so for premium. |

I'm extremely jealous of you all. Spare a thought for us in Euroland.
Current prices in the UK for standard 95 are £1.15 litre, £1.20 for 98.
To put that into perspective, for 98 we're paying
US$ 1.88 litre (US$8.55 gallon)
Aus$ 2.54 litre (Aus$11.55 gallon)
And we have to suffer an average of 5 > 10% ethanol. |

Most of the +++ over what we pay in the US is taxes. |

Last friday of July I paid 2.31 a gal for regular. Lately it has been 2.51 and 9/10ths.
With the refinery pipe leaks it went to 2.99 and 9/10ths overnight. All things in perspective that is livable but realistically it should be 1.50 per gallon. |

I had an interesting meeting last week at a gas station deep in the Adirondack park....
I had just been doing some exploratory trail riding on my wife's little Yamaha Dual sport bike, and was refilling before returning to camp.
I saw a guy on a fully loaded adventure bike sitting on a rock near the entrance to the store and approached him to get his story.
He was on a Suzuki V Strom and I asked him of his bike was the 1000 or the 650.
He was a guy of the age of most of us on this site (approx 60), from Georgia who was heading North to Nova Scotia or Newfoundland.
Told me he had been a Harley Guy his whole adult life, but now had the Wee Strom, full faced helmet and appropriate riding suit for all weather adventure riding.
His family was begging him not to go by himself, but he couldn't coordinate a trip like this with his usual riding buddies and took off on his own.
I asked him a ton of questions about his experiences on the trip to this point and he was happy to expound on them......I said nice meeting you and tried to leave three times and found myself engaged in further conversation with the man.
He was proud of the fact that he had a can of beans secured to his exhaust so that they would be hot for dinner after his next two hour riding leg.
I think that Adventure Riding will be the new fad of those of a certain age , replacing the classic mid life crisis fad of buying of a generic "Harley" and the associated fashion ware...then never riding it.....Maybe there will be a rash of these adventure bikes out there for sale used in a few years.
Anyone else notice the rise of the Adventure riding movement? Sorry for the hijack, but the thread title brought this conversation immediately to mind. |

Have 2 good friends w/ KTM 990's who do several long adventure rides every year. They were hard core Busa - R1 riders until they sold them off to buy the KTM's. Both say they will never go back to a street only machine. They go through 2-3 rear tires a year though, the big KTM's shred rear tires. |

The coming Honda Africa Twin is a physical twin (size and specs) of the old KTM 990..... |
