So which on are you?

Shelf full of parts or a garage full of bikes?

100 mph down the road or $100 and I'll ship the part out tomorrow...

Seriously, I've often wondered how many of the members here own 1100F's that they've never ridden. In other words, they bought them to restore and are taking a long time to do it right, or just lost interest. And are there members who bought them as investments, also collect NOS parts, and are just holding onto them waiting for the value to rise? We have a number of active members who have never posted pics or mentioned riding their F's, so that made me wonder...

Sadly, I rode my 1100F today for probably the last time this year. I added some Sta-Bil, filled the tank, rode home and drained the bowls. It was running beautifully as always. What a great bike!

All my boldors (only my 750 is operational) are parked up or under restoration or in crates. Both my VF1000R's are being rebuilt.
My black and red scooters are both licenced and insured and get ridden. The mighty Honda CT110 hypersport is operational but unlicenced. So maybe 4 out of 10 ish operational. It is never lack of interest but lack of time which slows things down.
Parts are a bit of a hobby of mine. I have access to Honda Australia dealer dead stock lists and it is hard to resist picking up parts for the rebuilds. Things like the tachometer drive am caps are expensive little buggers but they are commonly stripped or cracked so it makes sense to chase them down for the future. With eight or ten linear metres of racking stacked three metres high with Honda parts I think that it is probably the right amount of spares rather than too many or any form of parts hoarding.

Both for sure. Bikes, parts and memorabilia. CBF is just a small part of it. Bought it years ago, rode 1 season then it was down about 6 years as I restored it. This was the first year to be back on the road. Heres 1 picture I had handy to post.

definatley a rider , My bike spend as much time on the tracks as on the roads. and in any weather too !
I get them safe and road legal and leave it as that, I dont see the point in collecting them to look at.

Guilty and not Guilty

Have my 3 1100s running and roadworthy, but also have a shed full of mostly 900 parts, enough to build a 900 and loads of spares I will probably never use

I have 11 bikes right now in a 2 car garage, parts EVERYWHERE! Mostly V65, ZL900-ZL1000 Eliminator and VMAX stuff, but do have a VERY nice CB1100F. I guess since I have to move a couple bikes out of the garage to work on anything, that makes me a hoarder! All of these parts are going up in value, and I use them on my restorations, you can NEVER have enough parts bikes either! They have saved me countless number of times!

YES, and YES!

There are ~10 street bikes (licensed and insured) in this photo not including the racebikes and 'under construction' projects. The heads & cylinders on the left are Z1 parts, the cranks are CB-F parts, and all the CB-F heads & parts are on the other end of this shelf out of the photo. Total # of bikes indoors is >40. Total # of shelving units dedicated to motorcycle parts is 15.

Image

Why hoard just parts when you can hoard the whole thing? It makes it easier to find, but harder to part with Smile

I got both addictions pretty bad...

If you are really into classic/vintage bikes, you cannot ride them without also hoarding parts. Unless you are Jay Leno and are able to shell out lots of greenbacks for any little service or repair.
And you don't really want to leave yourself to the mercy of the parts sharks and disassemblers.

I have both. I purchased a 79 CB900F and an 81 CB900F2B and 3 boxes of parts as a package deal from the same seller. I also have 4 GPZ1100s complete and 1 spare parts bike and 6 boxes of parts for them. Also an XL250 and 2 boxes of parts for that all in a 2 car garage. The F2B is being restored now and will be on the road when done. I have a GPZ1100 with rego that I am riding now and I have just got a ZG1000 to use for touring.

Well since I was a kid I was in love with the Honda F bikes....Only got my first bike (71 CB450) when I was 18....After I left home...

Now that I'm able to afford the bikes I've loved all my life I have 2 - 900F's a 1100F and a CBX on the way....
I also have a 05' VTX1300, 06' Goldwing and a 02' ZRX.....
Plus I'm accumulating parts and pieces along the way......Keeping them for some other bike...or a forum member in need.

From 96 to 06 I had approx. 300 bikes in various stages but mostly parts bikes that I had acquired for free while doing heating work. Made as much as 6k per month from ebay selling used parts. Then I had to move and (I know its sacrilegious) most of the bikes went to the crusher. I tried for 6 months to give them away but nobody wanted them until they were gone.

Now I'm down to 7 F's in various states of repair, parts from 8 others, 2 VF750F's, 4 Honda dirt bikes, 1 1980 KTM495 that's almost ready to ride, 1 75 Husky CR250GP, a 63 Triumph, an 84 GPZ550, a 75 DT400, and some CBX parts.

On my wife's computer or I would show some pics of my abyss. I really need to inventory it all and start selling parts but NO time to do such a thing. At least its all indoors and dry.

Yes on both questions.

Both… two bikes on the road (and still riding every week despite the shitty British winter weather) plus a 99% finished bike ready for the spring (I hope) and enough parts to make another 2 I reckon.

Just got to find time to rebuild the F and my little MT5.

Rolling Eyes

EDIT: Shit… I forgot about my XT600… so thats another 99% one done. Just waiting for the gearbox conversion guy to finish it and that will be another on the road (well road and dirt)

Rider........4 bikes...all of them used like Soichiro intended...and 1 car that rolled out of the L.A. assembly plant with a Tonawanda Big Block.

My 1100..

"Junior"..

The 1981 GL1100I...
Image
The 1976 CL360 Scrambler (last winter's project)

The "playpen"
Image

All 4 bikes are on the road and ridden.....(the CL360 not as much / seemed like a better idea at the time.)

Then there's the 1967 Impala SS.....

I only go parts shopping when I need something. I spend more time on modern'ish bikes than my F. I bought it because I wanted a relaxed ride for tooling around with my wife on her little Suzuki 650. I know it was a performance bike in its day but now its a pretty mild fun bike to tool around on. The XR/L might have to go next year if my riding buddies don't follow my example. My planned dirt riding adventures were not about going solo. The basic 4. Touring, sporting, dirt, classic. Cruisers don't fit in any category that includes riding to me.

These bikes belong to a guy I bought a nice CB750F sales brochure from a few years ago...

Look close - there's something there for everyone.

He told me that he never dipped in the money set aside for the family budget to buy these. He bought and sold to get the ones he wanted, repaired bikes for others, (factory trained motorcycle mechanic) and even took out loans to buy them.

It's an amazing collection that he'll certainly make a lot of money on if he ever decides to sell. In the meantime, I can't imagine that he's able to ride more than a handful of them.
