I love the fact that it's become so much more affordable to tool up properly.

Who wouldn't want a shed full of Snap-on tools? I can't afford that... but some things don't have to be top quality - like this $150 parts washer. It'll cost more to fill it.

Isn't that the truth: the pain isn't in purchasing the washer, it's in purchasing the fluid Laughing

Ive been using that exact parts washer for almost 20 years. I put diesel fuel in it. Its as safe as the Stoddard solvent that you cant buy any more (in California) but way way easier to find.

Kerosene should be pretty nice. We used it on the ranch all the time, nicer than diesel to work with. Mineral spirits like paint thinner works too. That's what I had in my pw. Check with a petroleum distributor. Disposal is another issue.

I go to the local airport and get Jet-A1 slops, the fuel they drain when testing for contamination after refuelling. It's generally free and is basically kero.

I use a 50-50 mixture of kerosene and Gunk. Does a great job.

Do you have any trouble with evaporation using kero or diesel fuel?? I have one that's been sitting empty for years. I originally bought a water based solvent, talk about junk!!!

While on the subject but sllightly off-topic and sorry for the hijack, what's the general concensus on water-based solvents? I have a small PW but can't figure out what to use in it. Acording to the manual it must be water based. Thanks.

I have heard water based solvents are about as good as splashing straight water on something.

BTW what is a PW?

Power Washer? Pussy Whipped? Laughing Laughing

Peace,
Jebby

Hey Jebby. Either would work (for some) but in this context I was thinking parts washer Laughing Some recommend Simple Green but others say it's too corrosive for aluminum.

Don't burn them! Old tires go on the roof man! Got to hold the tarps down! Laughing
