So this morning, on my commute to work, I had my second real issue with another vehicle while riding.

Zipping along on a shoreway, and an on ramp to the left of fast lane, which is retarded to begin with. On-ramp must yield to faster traffic of course. There's definatley a sign there because I've used that on ramp before. Beat up Ford pickup, not yielding, car in front of me slows down immediatlely, as I do. Truck stops, the SUV and me, go around him and I give a nice toot, to let him know I'm there. I hear them beep back at me, I raise my left arm as to say, "WTF?" and then think to myself, "here we go..." I get back to normal speed, which was around 65-70. Keep checking my mirrors in case this jackass wants to nibble my ass-end. 3 miles down, I have to get over 2 lanes to my exit and I did so in an orderly fashion. As I'm getting into my final lane change, I hear beeping next to me, a lane over, and one white-trash scumbag hanging his head out giving me the stink eye and yelling something like, "I'm a white-trash piece of shit and I don't like it when I disobey traffic signs and someone calls me out on it..." or something like that.

As to not ignite their monkey brains, I give a nice "how do you do" wave. They cut in front of a semi truck, across 3 lanes to get in front of me and slow down. Now I realize, "FUCK THESE ASSHOLES!" I slow down, change a lane left and keep them in front of me. At this point there's no way I'm going to pass them in case they want to bumper-car me or break check. The whole time, both of these cocksuckers have their fat dirty arms out the window displaying their middle IQ. I just kept waving at them and shaking my head in disbelief. All in about 3min. that just happened. Wow. I'm lucky I don't have a missile launcher mounted to my bike or a CCW for that matter.

People like this should just cease to exist and their lineage should be wiped out. Put them on a rocket and tell them they won a trip. Into the sun.

Could I have done something different? What say you? How have you dealt with another vehicle that's clearly out to get you?

I stopped riding to the office for the same reason: too many diseased maniacs on the road during rush hour. The best defense is to change course. Let them get ahead of you and turn off. This is a no-win situation when you spar with a 3,000 pound sledgehammer.

Carry-on

Experiences like yours remind me how lucky I am with my daily commute. Mostly suburban roads and a short burst of Interstate riding that enhances the experience. This afternoon I had to ride the 1100F into the city to register a bike and it's a totally different scene. Touch and go through traffic and now the long wait to get the plate and registration for my son's bike. And here in MA, you wait in line to get a number and then wait for your number to be called so you can exchange pleasantries with an RMV employee. Ugh.

Glad your experience didn't end in a bad way. Keep your cool and ignore the fools.

I believe a general consensus is that males in pick up trucks are some of the most aggressive drivers out there.....

The profile generally means that issues of right of way and passing involving males in pickups can quickly deteriorate into road rage incidents.

+1 on the advice to avoid those if you can stomach it while on a bike...."serenity now, serenity now"

I guess you don't drive much on Long Island.. Very Happy
From what I see, women are just as aggressive if not more than men in ALL types of vehicles. I do get a kick seeing a woman drive a big ass SUV or Suburban and can't handle it because of the sheer size.

My independent agent will do it for me as well. I usually end up going in just because I want that plate a day or two earlier. I think they only go into the RMV a couple times a week. At least with a smart phone, I can read work email and respond while I wait for my number to be called.

I just don't get this stupidity of immediately sounding the horn back when someone beeps you. Sounding the horn means 'Hey I'm here just in case you did not see me'. An immediate retort just means I am a stupid A hole to be avoided I guess.

When I see a minivan, my level of alertness goes up. If I were to look at white males in pick up trucks as dangerous, I would be looking at 50% of the population around here.

Male drivers of Mercedes and BMWs are the biggest pricks on the road.

I'm all in favour of having a missile launcher mounted.
22mm sub-calibre practice rocket for the 66mm anti-tank rocket would be perfectly adequate for the job.
That's the small extending rocket launcher that Rambo fires from inside the rescue helicopter in Rambo 2.
(If that had been for real, the guys he'd rescued would have been B-B-Qed, just as an item of interest).
