Member "For Sale" section

I've been thinking for a while it would be really great if we had a separate section or even a sub catagory in the For Sale section for members that have parts to sell or services to offer. Jebby, Cary, JJam, Tom, Brent and a TON of others. Make it to where the thread is locked so it doesn't fill up with crap and that way people can cruise down the list and see what people have to offer then they can simply PM them. It would be a great way to make a concise list of what is available through members here. At the same time if it would be too much trouble/extra time for Glenn then I don't want to add it his plate but if it's fairly simple...? I think it's a good idea...what do ya'll think?

Agreed.

I often see something and try to remind myself to come back and find it when I free up the funds. Having all of this info together makes sense. Especially for new members. They seem to have the greatest difficulty with the search function.

Also if it was locked how could you add new items as this is going to happen from everyone?

This would be the best as long as our site works this way otherwise we would have to have Glenn make changes say if the price changed and I dont want him to do that, he does enough already.

It would require a lot of manual intervention. Unfortunately the software is just not flexible that way.

Here's what could be done. If I create a specific group I can assign rights to that group, those folks can control the posts. Modify, lock, sticky, etc.

That could be done in the existing forum, actually it is done years ago so John could do housekeeping in the Market Watch forum. Based on how clean it is in there he's doing great!

So if there is a core group of people that want to be involved let me know. The one caveat is this, at the first sign of trouble, infighting, whatever, i'll shut it down.

And as ever this site doesn't endorse any person or product.

There's no reason that I know of that oil lines and fittings won't be continuously available, so I'd like to have a spot. If I can help with Administration as well, I'd be happy to do so.

So maybe at the top of EVERY for sale post we can put in big red letters DO NOT REPLY IN THIS THREAD! IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS PLEASE PM THE MEMBER SELLING THE PART OR SERVICE!!

I know this won't keep people from cluttering up the thread but maybe it would cut back a bit...

As a thought,, when say Rick posts for his oil lines ,, the thread is automatically locked as soon as he enters it,, then no replies can be made to the thread and all inquiries MUST to be sent directly to Rick via PM / Email.

AND , , If you choose to participate,, you are required to list and email address to be accessible..

I think this is for people who are making lots of things for the F, such as Tom who P/C's Cary and JJ who makes several upgrade custom parts.

Mainly looking to eliminate the 23 pages of discussion, debate and clutter over every nut and bolt offered.

Under this format, each thread (offering) will have 1 post ONLY from the seller, no additional comments etc can be added. Interested buyers go directly to the seller via email - PM

Thanks Larry, I understand now. I don't see a dire need for it. As sometimes, there needs to be discussion regarding a service or selling an item. This discussion, in my opinion, is very useful and further expands the collective groups knowledge. Having this discussion go "underground" via PM's deprives us all of this vast knowledge. A good example is Captain's selling of his cam chain tensioner. Having that thread go private is such a loss of valuable information.

Good points Brian, and there may be more that Im not seeing so Im sure Nathan and others will chime in and expand, elaborate on their thoughts for suggesting this idea
