I've finished restoring my 1100F and have done a couple of shake down runs of 150-200 miles. I am thinking of doing a week long tour of about 1500 miles on it. Am I crazy trusting it to do such a thing? It's only got about 30k on it, runs fine. All new electrics, starter clutch and gear, tires, chain, sprockets...made a $3500 bike cost me double....

Why would that be crazy...it's a Honda, I bet it runs like a top the whole way.

Go! I take my cb's on 4-5000 mile trips every few years, sometimes take 2 of them at the same time to double the odds! Smile

Guess I'm kinda' gun shy. Here's why.

Right after I purchased the bike I took it out on a little jaunt. Had to bump start it at a cafe about 50 miles from home cause the starter clutch gear would no longer engage. Fixed that and put in a newer starter clutch too. Braver now I left with a buddy to take a 200+mile day cruise. Halfway through it wouldn't make enough power to stay running at lower rpms. Removed the headlight fuse, bump started it, kept it above 2000 rpms and made it 125 miles back home, oh and the speedo cable broke too. So I put in a new rotor, stator, regulator/rectifier, Big Crank Battery, new cables, pull the wiring harness and clean all junctions. Took the bike to TX to ride the Hill Country last March. Rode about 500 miles and it quit charging again. Limped it back to the cabin we rented, put it on the trailer and thanked God that I had the foresight to bring along my TransAlp. Got home found that the rotor had shorted, took out the regulator/rectifier too. Another rotor and regulator/rectifier and it runs like a champ again. Have ridden about 300 miles since the fix and it seems good.

I really want to do this 1500 mile ride on the 1100F, but I'm not trusting it too much. BTW, I took my '90 Ducati 851Superbike on a ride about this far with nary a problem!

dont blame ya for being un sure....ride the beast around town , put as many miles on as possible untill your sure its reliable and at least you will have some piece of mind.....when all else fails make sure you have your auto club card. Its just like buying a used car ..you have to drive it for a bit so as to feel at ease...good luck....dont forget the card Cool

I wonder....but I have had no problems with the '90/'06 Ducatis, the '97 H-D, the '96 Buell, the '89 TransAlp...oh wait, the Buell left me stranded once. And I ride almost every day year round, just not the 1100F.

Going the other direction though. Wanting to go to Ft. Smith, AR. trip plan is a meandering 2 lane one through IL, MO, AR.
