Beautiful day on 9/11/2010. Got out for a few miles.
Pedestrian bridge over the Delaware River separating PA and NJ:
One of the many covered bridges dotting the area:

Nice pictures - your F looks like you just picked it up from the motorcycle showroom.
What's the deal with covered bridges? To stop you getting blown off? Restrict the size of vehicle? They do not exist in the UK at all.

I think the covered bridges are to protect the actual wooden planks from the elements thus prolonging their service... |

+1 The roof/covering are there to protect the other wood (esp the floor beams and the superstructure). |

Nice Rob,
We'll have to get out sometime. I used to ride a lot in Bucks Co, back in the '80's. Nice area.

Looks like we have a couple of candidates for a new pic on the front page of the site! Beautiful bike!
Number 2, 3, 9 or 10, any of them would work! |

Yep, good pics.
The bike the area.
It's a good area to ride.
When I lived in NE PA I rode there a few times and as long as its
summer or early fall really nice roads and riding. |

Nice post. I grew up in Bucks, and lived there for a few years after college. A beautiful area with some fantastic roads. |

Well, I got interested and had a google around; it seems those covered bridges are quite historical things!
Another reason for their existence, besides protection of the bridge infrastructure, is thought to be to prevent horses getting 'spooked' when crossing the river or whatever by preventing them having any sideways vision.
Are those pictures taken anywhere near the Delaware Water Gap?

About 56 miles or so South of the Gap. |
