Morning All,
Saw this bike for sale on the "for sale" board here at work and couldn't pass it up for $700. 1979 (as if you regulars couldn't tell ) 750F. I'm the third owner (previous owners were a Father and his son-in-law). It's in mint shape as it's only got 6,200 miles. Had to put put two new Dunlaps on has the the tires on it were pretty cracked. Other than that it's been gas-n-go.
If anybody could steer me in the direction of a hondaline (or aftermarket) luggage/backrest, it would be great appreciated. I've been watching ebay and contacting Honda dealers with no avail. I'd also like to get an original owners manual.
It's been about 15 years since I last owned a bike (a 750 custom). Gotta admit, it feels good to ride again.
Collector plates will be arriving as soon as the WI DOT gets around to it. I've got pics on my computer, does this forum allow me to upload pics, or do they have to reside on a server somewhere?

Welcome to Feaven.
Trying to find someone that will sell a good rack/back rest is alot of work, they do come up every now and then but they are rare as hens teeth.
You may find one here on this site, good luck.
Hondaline parts are made of unobtanium.
But this is the site to be at if you want a chance at finding those parts.
Once again welcome to the site.
And you need to goto the gallery and create an album then upload pics. |

Welcome.........sounds like you got a great buy.
You can upload pics to the gallery by starting your own. Best size is 640X480, this allows more space for future use. |

Unobtanium is not nasty, it is good. It is rare and hard to find but it is always very good. |

You need to resize your pictures to a viewable size like 640 x 480
If you cannot resize them, send them to bakmanrayman@yahoo.com and I will resize them and send them back to you for upload. |

excitableboy,
Sorry, everyonce in a while you stumble onto something. If it makes you feel better, I'll be into it for close to a grand if you figure in the the new skins, mounting, balance, tax, title transfer, registration and collector plates
Maybe things are different up here in the winter states. I called two dealers, checked the internet / nada/blue book and talked to some co-workers who are cycle nuts. Word I got was anything over 20 years old was around $1 a cc. |

Unless they are in the kind of condition your bike is in.
You scored big time in the eyes of the F crowd. |

As far as bike prices go ....supply and demand.
I for example picked my 1100f up for $2100.00 Was it worth it,you damn right it was. Would I sell it today for $4000....no way.
Prices on bikes are dictated by the buyer and NOT THE SELLER. You see bikes all the time for sale with huge price tags on them....only to be re-listed at a more reasonable price. Fine I paid $2100 for mine....would I have paid more, yes .....and why .....because I loved the bike the moment I saw it. It's all relevant to how much you like the bike and how bad you want it.Once in a while you get lucky and find a really good solid deal, and when it does come you better act quickly or somebody else will beat you to it. CAn you pay to much for a bike? Ask me next year after I throw another couple of grand on it. I just love it even more.Up keeping, modefications, upgrades is the fun part of owning a classic!!! |

Nice bike! and what a deal!
As for the luggage rack and backrest, it is not easy. I started riding an F this year after 18 years of no bike, and one of the first things I looked for was a rack/backrest. I ended up with a KG carrier in nice condition and a friend said that he had a whole box of new backrest pads. I bought one from him, then made my own bracket/support for the pad. It fits perfectly on the carrier, and works and looks really good.
When I get some time, I plan to make a bunch of these backrests, because I know there are still a lot of the KG carriers out there...and they are all the same as far as the way that a backrest bolts on to them. I actually have a couple of KG carriers here as well. Hopefully later this summer I will have a few that I can sell. |

How about $1400aud for an 1100f with a shagged motor? (Euro model)
Big clunks<
The rest of the bike is complete except the pipes of course.
It would make a good project bike, say something like "da beast"
Is it a good buy?
I forgot to mention the paintwork will need redoing etc... |

Very nice bike, you got a great deal! Enjoy!! Hey, at $1 per cc, I would be very interested in an 1100f for $1100, especially in similar condition. Keep your eyes open |

I saw a hondaline rack and backrest at Cyclesalvage.com of West Haven CT.
Its nearly a total POS asa far as rust goes. Would need a total rechrome. But there it was.
If you contact them and they still have it, I'll ride over a take a look at it and give you a more updated description of it and make sure its got all the stuff for mounting and such.
Let me know. |
