I’m debating whether or not to repaint my bike tank and fairing. The clearcoat I had applied 46 years ago yellowed. I had a very minor drop of the motorcycle.(after doing a burn out a week or two after owning the thing) and I painted the fairing in the gas tank. It matched perfectly when I did it.
Looking into the decals, it seems that they’re about $250-$300, and the paint is probably $600 with supplies. It seems like a lot of effort and money to invest given the overall value of these motorcycles.
I’m assuming the answer is going to be nope, but are there any cheaper alternatives than buying the materials and supplies and repainting it? |

That’s an interesting idea, I am looking for the OEM look. I don’t know that anybody produces that.
OK, as an update I couldn’t find one that anybody has already created, but that was a good idea |

Like Autos it's a relatively new idea / process.
Would obviously be a "custom" job but due to paint costs possibly quite a bit cheaper.
I'm thinking that most of the motoGP (and other classes) bikes are vinyl wraps rather than paint due to needs for swaps after mishaps.
Just a thought that might be worth considering. |

Hi Grump,
I need the tank and fairing stickers. I have all the factory stickers as my bike is original, it’s just that I screwed up the tank when I was 24 years old, a long time ago.
Thanks! |

Not sure why your clear yellowed but you may try simple wet sand and new clear coat? I have done this many times and it looks brand new. If your decals have fade spots that is a different story. But, if all is in good shape I would try a new clear after sanding a bit. Send a picture or two along..that helps. |

That is a good idea, and I have tried it, but the stickers themselves have been chipped or peeled a little bit. I was thinking of doing that just to make it OK and I might but it’s a lot of work sanding it off. |
