Carb inlet rubbers

Anyone had success with a reasonable quality inlet rubbers apart from original . I lost the packaging
of the ones i got and they are s@#$ and not very pliable .

The insulators (inlet rubbers) are not supposed to be pliable, they hold the carbs on. Also if they were too soft they would collapse from vacuum. You also should still have the bands (clamps) that came with the original insulators for the bike, there are 2 different sizes, one for the head side, one for the carb side . They are made to tighten the exact proper amount so they don't bulge out the rubber from overtightening, or leak from under tightening. All genuine Honda. The insulators run about $80USD a set here at Partzilla.com, on the cyl head diagram.

Yes I am using the correct clamps and the correct size on the correct end . I should have expanded buy saying
that when fitted and lined up to the correct castings on the block they are not even and square onto the carbs.
This makes them difficult to fit up .pity i didn't keep the packaging .

This may sound silly.... but are you sure you have the rubbers on their correct cylinder? The OEM ones are marked.

...And they go left to right as you sit on the bike of course.

I know soaking them in vinegar might swell them and make them soft. Try youtube and search how to soften rubber. I cannot recall who/what, but I did watch a vid to said effect using something else. I just know I soaked a carb and parts to clean them up. Had a rubber tipped float needle and it expanded off the float needle. So no rubber using vinny for carb cleaning.

They all have the cylinder numbers and case markings to line up with I only have 4 fingers so that helped and we drive on the left-hand side of white line which is a bonus They were OK to fit on the head no creme needed ,its just not square onto the carbs beerchug

rotate them slightly on the head until the carb side (looking from the side of the motor) are all on the same plane.

I have taken old stubborn inlet rubbers and put them in a closed container with a slash of gasoline in it, put a lid on and let it rest overnight. This usually results in relatively manageable rubbers, at least when installing them.

Tried ideas put up and turned rubbers around with no success and also found the same problem on my other 900.
Did some measuring and some of the rubbers are slightly shorter and some longer than originals .

Ummm, are you on about the air cleaner connecting tubes, or the carburetor insulators?

Check the parts diagrams for the correct terminology.

The air cleaner connecting tubes are on the air cleaner diagram.

The carburetor insulators are on the cylinder head diagram.

For what it's worth the OEM Honda parts for #2and #3 are on Backorder, and not currently available
This could mean they might be available in the future, or as has been my experience in the past, that could turn into Discontinued

Www.davidsilverspares.com has a aftermarket part available for $45 for a set

If you search by part # 16211-438-000 the aftermarket part will come up

My experience with them is their replacement parts are normal good Very Happy

Went back to oem insulators and they lineup better and checked using a straight edge

Yeah, most aftermarket insulators aren't worth a crap.
