I finally took my `new to me' CX650 turbo out of for a proper thrashing after changing all the fluids, replacing engine speed sensors and water pump seal, valve clearance adjust, spark plugs, air filter and a general clean up. Damn that thing is quick! Big handfulls of throttle had me hanging on tight and still sliding down the seat. I still have some more work to do to get her perfect but she's about 95% sorted now. |

I wish we were headed to the fall forum ride, Todd, but not in the cards, we're headed to Deals Gap and then the Barber Vintage Festival this fall.
I've tried to get Janet on a F bike, but not in the cards at 5 Foot tall, and she's really happy with her CBR600RR, which just passed the 50,000 mile mark |

Not an F, but...my poor '78 GL1000 kept taking a back seat to other projects for the past 3 years. In between my RM build and my son's 1100F restoration, I have been picking away at many bits and pieces preparing for completion. I finally made it a priority to finish, and now reassembly is well underway. It needed tires, brake work, carb overhaul, (Mike Nixon) fork rebuilding, and all the usual stuff. Most of that is done now and some mods have also been done to make it a bit sportier. The silver wheels never made any sense with the burgundy paint and gold pinstriping, so I took care of that little problem.
Terry, aka Grumpy32 supplied the 900C fender that bolted right on. Some 1100F bits have been added that will be seen in the final pics I post. |

Monday I left on my bike and rode 300 miles to Roanoke VA. Today I rode back home. Everything went well, did run into a shower but no biggie. Was able to run non ethynol fuel the whole trip. Was happy about that. |

Rode the ol' CBX into work today after a long hiatus. Still a cranky bird, but she's worth it After a few farts and pops all is well. |

I put new rear wheel dampers in my CBX from CBXtras. It has a CB750 rear wheel so it's CB related.
Huge improvement, there was easily an inch of rotational play before and after it's like a new wheel.
I had no idea how sloppy those 40 year old hard as hell shrunken dampers were, but now it feels awesome.
This might sound like a CBXtras commercial, well it is. If you have a wheel with old dampers you can't go wrong.
Best.

G'day fellas.
The fork tubes that I got a while back were wrong. Lastnight I made them right. Got home from work today and the right replacements have arrived. Other fork parts arrived from Partzilla as well. I already had the bottom bush/sleeve so all systems go. Not quite, Their bloody wrong too. Bugga, have to wait another few days to get the forks back on.
Cheers |

Long time without posting. Good to be back, and with good news. My 1980 CB750F that I bought for $180 2 years ago, comletely rebuilt the engine, then let the bike sit on and off in pieces for the better part of a year.... finally ran again tonight. I have been distracted with life for many projects, and have finally put effort into this one again. Got it almost all back together truly, all I need to do amis add brake fluid and bleed brakes, wire my gauges in, wire my tail light, and weld a couple tabs before its actually rideable.... first time since 2008. Then ill be fabricating the seat pan, sending that off for cushion and upholstery, finishing the rear fender pan welding, and overall just gonna ride it to shake down any issues that might arise before I disassemble down to bare frame for powdercoat. So far it starts up, idles perfect, and takes throttle without hesitation! |

Bled the brakes. Rear took fluid after a long time of pumping the hand vacuum, feels nice and firm now. Fronts took a while also, and while I got fluid all packed into the calipers it still is spongey on first pull. I think the brake splitter might be the culprit holding on to a bubble.
Diagnosed my cyl 3 was actually never firing, so found out it was a bad sparkplug. Swapped it with a new one and the engine loved it. Takes throttle without any hesitations, sounds incredibly smooth like a CBR.
Welded my electronics brackets, and my rear brake reservoir tab. First time welding with gas, and my MIG skills definitwly improved, they actually look nice! This will be veru very nice for welding in my tail hoop sheet pan/splash guard.
Finished sanding the tank and am getting ready for etching primer and body filler for the little dents. |

G'day fellas.
Ordered cylinder sleeves for the 1100. Started cleaning parts and pondered over the piston choice. Getting close to Xmas $$$$$, looks like G/kids miss out again!
Cheers

Not CB related but took the VFR750FR out for a 20 minute ride in the suburbs. I can confidently say that the VFR can do 100km/hr on the freeway. Another speed record set. |

I finished painting my CB750F tank. There was about 30 little dents and 5 decent quarter sized ones. Took a long time but I am absolutely certain this is my best paint job so far, third times the charm.
Stripped tank to bare metal with a flapdisc (dont fuckin do that! Left me tons of work to fill where the sander bit in)
Can of etching primer after acetone wipedown
Bondo filler on dents, sanded down.
Filler primer can, sanded down.
Body filler, sanded down.
Body filler again on a dent I didnt previously see, sanded down.
Rustoleum aerosol primer, sanded inbetween coats.
Rustoleum 2X gloss black, 1sr can laid, had runs and dust particles. Sanded down, bought tack cloth and painted with another can. Got a run on my first trigger pull. Wated a day, sanded the run and started over. Finally got a perfect coat of base with no runs and no dust, on to clear.
Painted many layers, used 2 cans of spraymax 2k clear spraying even layers and waiting 5 min between until both cans were empty. Came out perfect!!! I cant see any imperfections at all. Going to let the tank cure for 2 weeks in my basement before moving on to 1200-2000 grit wetsand, compound polish, then meguires number 7 polish and finally wax. Ill be able to install the original emblems then. I don't remember how to post pics here.... |
