Just returned from visiting Basmn at his new place near Rice Lake Ontario.
Also met up with Wulph, and some F'ers I've never met (Joe, Jason, and David). You know when that many F bikes get together your going to need some tools and troubleshooting skills. Ed (Basmn) provided both. He has an amazing garage which has all the space, tools and supplies a guy could ever want. The 1st night night Ed did a removal and breakdown of Jason's carbs to troubleshoot his running rough at 5,000 rpm. I had an oil leak from the left cover etc etc.
Anyway we managed to get 5 riders on the road for a nice Saturday jaunt around the lake. Adding the words 'leisurely', 'relaxed' or 'sedate' would not do justice to describe Ed's pace that morning. There were times when we had a train of cars following behind us as Ed's 78 Kph speed was 2 kilometers per hour under the posted speed limit. Even hand signals from Dave could not inspire him to twist the throttle a bit more .
Finally after what seemed like an eternity we entered a village, my brain started functioning again and we stopped by the river. Being ever so 'tactful' we proceeded immediately to Mob Rule and ganged up on Ed, roasting him proper.
His defence was that 'his' speedometer was reading 100 the whole time. OMG!!!
At that point Dave had to get a fresh coffee to wake himself back up as his brain had shut down during the ride as well .
We proceeded out of town and gave Ed a demonstration of what 100 kph actually was and for the remainder of the day we no longer had a following of automobiles behind us
The rest of the day went well and of course the road home passed directly under T-Storms and we got soaked
Ed made some very tasty burgers on the bbq (secret Ed recipe of which we were not privileged to) and his stocked beer fridge made for a nice finish to the day.
Many thanks to Ed for getting us out there and of course some parts of my recollection may be a tad embellished ... or not |

more pics....
Ya Ya Ya.....Thanks to all for the spedo correction ...to be honest last time Dave and i rode that route we were dooin a buck 80.in the sweepers...LOL. Unfortunately we were unable to get Jason's bike running properly and he did not make the ride on Saturday...but you were there in spirit dude....Aside from the downpour we only cut the ride short by about 40km..so all in all not bad. Thanks to all who showed up...it was a great weekend.

2kph UNDER the posted speed limit, now I know why we never have the NE ride in Ontario. |

Sounds like a good time! Need to get a thread together with links to all of "Tom's Tales" (or maybe call it "Fitter's Fables"?)!

I thought it looked more like a Baluga than a killer whale.
In Ed’s defence, he interprets all hand signals as “you are doing a great job”.
Great job by Ed hosting at his place; and what a fine group of CBFers. |

If there is a 2nd annual ride Ed, I'll be there! Maybe some of the U.S. guys would come up, but I don't think they are ready for the "senior tour" quite yet....
Where are the 'drinking' pics??
Cheers!

I'm ready, Cookie is on the road (from Stratford Cycle Centre) so I'll try to fit in. Looks like I am available from October 19th onward.

Sorry, i had to miss this.
I am not fast so the snails pace would have been okay but i do make a lot of noise.
From what i have heard about Ed, i would have expected any speedo errors would have been going 100mph instead of 100kmh. |

Cookie was in NJ, but not quite road worthy.

Ok... so I've been thinking...
If we're going to do this... let's try for the first half of the spring/summer. I desperately want to redeem myself for my poor showing and the sooner, the better.
Plus, the sooner we can work out a date, the greater my odds of being able to borrow the trailer and book the time away.
Wadda ya say, Ed? Want a house full of stinky old men and their motorcycles again? |

Hey GTA F’ers, great idea to start planning for Rice Lake ‘19. Speaking of planning, check the NE Spring Ride thread in rides, rally’s etc. This will be about an hour south of Gananoque so it’s very close, about 4-hours from the GTA. Get your note signed now and make plans to be there, you won’t regret it. Now, back to our previously scheduled discussion. |
