Aluminum starter cover question?

Does anyone know what year's and model's used the alum cover? I'm thinking the 79 f's but not positive.

Yup, cast aluminum instead of stamped steel. Thicker too. If I recall, the cutout for the starter cable is different or non-existent. Not sure what years and models though...

Yes, I can verify that my 1979 CB750F, does indeed have an Aluminum starter cover... I don’t remember if other year 750F models had them..

I found one in my stash and it's 30 grams heavier than the stamped steel one. As mentioned, there isn't cutout for the starter cables. However, it looks like it would polish up real nice.

I'm trying to understand what the big F'n deal is. Who would want a heavier part that won't fit until modified?

If it's bling you want, just ceramic coat or chrome a steel one.

I agree with the weight issue, but based on Cary's photo's... I'm not sure that I understand what needs to be modified.

I have an aluminum one from my 79k motor that fits on a 750 80f motor without any modifications.

Cary, 30 grams= 1oz 2gms. ....not much heavier.

When on a titanium diet, it's no use spending big bux on Ti parts to shave off grams, then use a heavier part somewhere else. But that's not necessarily a consideration for everybody.

I agree Gene. ..........I wonder how much the paint on the frame and body work weights? A few ozs Rolling Eyes

could be saved not painting the bike. Smile

That aluminum cover would be great painted black, but then it would be even heavier. Twisted Evil
