well, I ordered a magnetic oil drainplug back in February, contacted the eBay seller last week to ask for a refund since the tracking info shows it never left China, got my confirmation of the seller agreeing to a refund, then found a package with the darned thing in my mailbox this morning! LOOOL.

if anyone wants one, I've got a spare now. M14 threading, black anodized aluminum with racewire holes. small shiny silver magnet. let me know

I've been fairly busy this weekend DOING things to my bike Smile

I've had my wheels powder coated white recently, and replaced any bearings that might need to be changed, whilst they were out.
Both wheels are now back on the bike. I've replaced almost all of the control cables, including speedo and tacho cables.
Adjusting my throttle cables so that it snaps shut on release is proving difficult though. The routing is ok, there's a bit of free movement when I push or pull on them and it makes no difference if the bars are at straight ahead, full left or full right. My throttle does go back to shut, but it takes a second or two, it doesn't snap shut Sad
I've serviced all three brake callipers, but need to put a new set of seals into my rear calliper. I've also got to put new pads into 2 of the 3, so I'll renew them all.

I drove up to visit nlovie last weekend. He had offered me a tank so I had a fuel container, but before I left he warned me it was leaking. He tried brazing the leaky area but that hadn't been particularly successful. I drove up anyway, in the mean time he'd brazed a patch onto the affected area, but wasn't confident it would be good for the trip to Spa. So I've bought another tank from Mike Penny, another member of this site.
I've just spent a fair bit of cash on the small parts I need from David Silver Spares and bought a petcock from Wout.
I also need a lock flap, but no-one has them in stock at the moment Crying or Very sad

All in all, I'm confident of having a running road legal bike by the end of this month and the Spa trip.
I better had. I've got ferry tickets and event tickets bought and paid for, for me and my co-pilot.
She's also booked time off work to come. If my bike isn't ready to go, I'll be in DEEP rouble.

Simon, quite often the throttle not snapping shut can be cured be adjusting the close cable to have some slack in it when at rest.

What do you mean by the lock flap? Do you mean the alloy flap that secures the tank filler? If so I think I might have one with a key you can have for postage, let me know and I'll check for you.

On the weekend: Pulled my exhaust and sanded, prepped, painted the header. I polished the can and collars while I was waiting between coats of primer and paint.

In process: Oil pan gasket replacement, new lines for the oil cooler, new filter/oil/etc. The pan looked ok inside, decently clean but there were some light deposits of super duper fine metal (so fine and small it was the consistency of smooth paste, but a very, very small volume). Pickup screen was pretty clean, a few tiny bits of detritus and a couple of small blobs of silicone or some other sealant. This is still a new to me bike and is in the middle of it's 'pre-riding' maintenance. I could punch who ever used silicone on this engine. The float bowl gaskets were basically RTV'ed in place...

Next up: Checking valve clearances

The only consolation to all the wet weather we have been getting in VT this season is that it has made it easier to just keep plugging along in the garage on this bike. If it were nice I'd have to be working on the house or fishing and lamenting the fact that this bike is not ready to roll just yet.

Thanks very much. There's some free play in both cables and the outer covers aren't trapped. I'll look further into the problem this weekend.

By lock flap I do mean the alloy flap that secures the tank filler, however, the tank I bought from Mike and Anne Penny has arrived and it has one fitted Very Happy

That tank is ugly as sin, but it looks solid. It was a black tank that's been partly sprayed with red lead primer.
I've spoken to my local powder coating shop and I'm going to take it up there and discuss what can be done with it Saturday morning
The inside also needs cleaning, what I can see is quite rusty. So I think I'll clean it out, then seal it with pet seal before getting the outside looking decent. I'll get the acid cleaning kit as well as the two pack sealing kit.
I don't have much time left when I can work on my bike, before I take my bike to Spa at the end of this month. I might have to pay someone to do the inside cleaning and sealing for me. It goes against the grain to pay someone to do something I can do myself, but time is getting tight.

Rode some good miles this past week with my bride. Trailered the bikes out to near Boston, Massachusetts, then rode up the Maine coast to Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park is a damn good reason to have a National Park. We rode up Cadillac Mountain (the spot where the morning sun first strikes the United States), and it is awesome!

a bit of work done last two weeks, but mostly major life changes. GFs new car has a bad headgasket (98 Subaru DOHC), so ill be tackling that this month. believe it or not, theyre almost identical to our DOHC heads systems. shim over bucket design, so ill be applying my knowledge there to rebuild and lap in the valves along with sourcing shims for the final adjustment.

Got a puppy, a 5 werk old orphaned Aussie shep heeler mix. damned adorable.

as for the bike, got my tank de rusted, cleaned and lined at a professional shop. looks fantastic. I finally got my custom shop pal.to swing by eith his trailer to take my bike out of the living room, the fiance couldnt be happier! I will update once the fabrications all said and done, we settled on the tail hoop with integrated lights, an electronics tray thats also a fender, and he will be fabricating a midpipe and resonator muffler out of stainless for me. ive heard his resonator on a HD FXR and really really like the tone, sounds just beautiful. Also got Toms fender in the post today, Ill be getting you paid ASAP, most likely tomorrow since im paid then. what a wonderful community weve got here!

Fellas! I feel like we are almost in the home stretch!!!

Rick, you're right on. Through a chance meeting last January I met this fellow at a bike show in Toronto. A brief conversation later and he had my contact info. To make a long story shorter, I picked it up last Sunday. The poor thing has been sitting in a barn since fall of 1999, getting crustier by the year. If you want I'll put up a couple of pictures that show how nasty it really is. But, it's all there and it looks like it will clean up okay. POD naysayers, I got the plugs out today and they look great. It's got just under 42k-km on it and I'm second owner now.

TOO LATE--saw the Wolf Pipe.

This is "maybe" the same bike that we tried to get the seller to "release" the WOLF pipe in exchange for a BRAND NEW V&H pipe but he said NO. His reply was "buy the bike and you can have the pipe for FREE"

The poor old thing was hosed off in the driveway to get the loose crap off of it, along with some of the loose paint from the engine side covers. We put it on the trailer with the front-end loader. Wasted all the effort taking my ramp with me. Very Happy

Quick update, swapped out the cracked battery for an old weak one from my red 11 and all lights, signals and horn work.

Wulph - Nice score, I am envious. That bike looks like it will clean up sweet. I love the deals where it looks grubby like that and helps you land it cheap. That stuff all comes off the factory finish brought back with a little time, patience, and polishing.
