At last my restored bodywork is back from the paint shop and I'm loving it...

Image

This will all be going on my resto-mod and represents the next-to-last step towards completion.

Image

I asked my painter to match the pearl white that I used for the rims, so the pearl on this bodywork is a tad whiter. If you look closely at stock bodywork, the pearl has a slightly yellow tinge to it.

Image

For the 1100F purist who must have a perfect match, this blue is a shade or two lighter than the stock blue. Depending on your computer screen, it may look even lighter to you than it actually is. (definitely looks lighter on my screen)

He painted both the CBR fender for short term used as well as the VF1000R fender that will go on permanently once I finish up my custom fork brace/fender mount. That should be done in a couple of weeks and the last step will be completed.

Am I delighted? Yes!! His paint work is beautiful and he did a great job. I can't wait to get it on the bike this weekend.

Man, that looks really nice. Congratulations and best of luck on the next steps. I hope the slight difference in the white tint doesn't make this bike as slow as the red ones. Wink

If the blue on this bodywork is really a bit lighter than the stock color, that might be enough to make this as fast or maybe a little faster than my red 1100F. After all, lighter is faster. Wink

Good question! I have a possible job coming up on the 750...

Gorgeous work, TK!

I'm just wondering if anyone knows the actual color? Does anyone know the formula to mix at? I've seen several different shades on various bikes.

I have a NOS side cover that was never on a bike in blue . I think they should be able to match it . The blue is not as critical as the red because of the lack of the metallic showing through . Not a candy color ???

The person to contact is Craig at Paintworks in Loves Park, IL. He's on Facebook and online, so the rest of his contact info is readily available. (or PM me) Regarding price - I'll just say that he was very reasonable. He provided the paint and labor and I provided the decals. For your particular project, providing pictures and some details will get you an accurate quote. My job was a bit unique and not a full 1100F paint job, and I also requested a whiter pearl.

Matching Candy Pearl Capiolani Blue perfectly will be difficult. I wonder if anyone has even pulled it off in recent years? Keep in mind that paint formulations are totally different now for a variety of reasons, some thanks to environmental requirements. There's no known formula out there either, so it's a trial and error process. Candies are laid down over metallic or pearl bases and require numerous coats to get to the desired shade. I powder coat with candy powders and it's the same deal. The more coats, the darker it gets and the less translucent the top coat is.

I gave Craig a very decent original side cover to use as a guide, but told him that the match didn't have to be exact. (I asked him to come close.) I realized later last night that the blue bodywork presently on the bike is a darker repaint, so the true match is somewhere between my new bodywork and the old. The side cover that I sent him wasn't a repaint, so I think he did indeed come pretty close.

He's very reasonable to deal with and will do his best, but I can't say with certainty that he can guarantee a perfect match. It seems like matching the colors for the 1100F is like trying to find the Holy Grail - it's just not easy!

Not sure what your using for forks I assume CBR? If so take a look at my CBR forks with a VF1000R fender setup. You can use the VF fender mount and brace if you grind off the ears from the forks where the CBR fender mounted. All you'll need is a thin shim inside the fork brackets.

That's the plan - I have all the parts and if you look closely in the right side of the top picture, you'll see the VF1000R fender already painted to match. I have a spare set of CBR fork legs that I'm going to modify and powder coat, then swap everything over. For now, the repainted CBR fender will do the trick while I finish the work. Thanks for the link to your thread - easy mod for sure.

The only problem with new paint is that it makes you shy about riding the bike. For a small fee, I will happily restore your willingness to ride it by placing an ever so hard to see scratch or chip on any one or more pieces you specify. All it takes is a single tiny ding, and you'll have it over with. If not, then your bike is destined to be a mere showpiece joining the other beauties in your garage.

Thanks for your kind and generous offer, Peter. I am not shy about riding this bike, however, and have put close to 100 miles on it over the past week. I built it to ride and not to show, so it will accumulate some signs of wear over time. I knew that it would never look as new again, once I took it out for the first ride. The thrill it gives me is why I built it.

You need to come out soon for a country ride. I'll let ride this one and you can pretend to scratch it. Wink
