Nick's going with traditional shingles so that the shop roof matches the house roof. Makes sense, now let's get back to topic and hear more about his shop and see more pictures.

Progress today, I have a roof and the man door cut out. Its starting to look right.

And here is a view of the matching the rest of the house thing.

My new shop is in progress too. Unfortunately not usable in this winter. Fortunately this shop is for the car and wifes gardening tools.
I decided to build it with antique timber in antique local way. Timberframe with wooden nails . Than the fields are going to be filled with antique bricks. The roof is going to be covered with antique roof tiles from 1850s.
Actually the weather is most of the time to bad for building. But good enough to work on my winter project in my bike shop.

Passed the rough framing inspection today. So now I need to go and get the doors and windows. The garage wont get sided until January.

At least I can move my trailer back under cover now and park my car under shelter as well. Planning on a separate cover for the trailer later as I don't want it taking up garage space.

Looking good Nick! At least the weather has been on your side. Are you going to have a gas heater in there Nick? Then comes the big screen TV...beer fridge...

Very Nice AJ. Having once been a building contractor i was a bit stopped when I saw the framing. Continuing to read i see that your new building will blend well with your neighborhood. There is much to be said of the craftsmanship in the old ways. Good job. mike

Yes to all of that, plus wall and ceiling insulation and AC. I went with 2x6 framing so should get pretty good R value in the walls. I am going with blow in in the attic space. I really don't need the extra storage space I could get in the attic.

I have made some progress over the Christmas break. My own blood, sweat and tears getting invested now. Both garage doors installed along with the man door. Garage doors are fun to put together. The instructions were not that good and it took a while to understand the right way to assemble and adjust all the parts. The second door took half the time as I knew how to do it. I don't have the automatic openers up yet, that's tomorrows job.

Now you can start filling it up. Did you consider one big door instead of the 2 small ones? I have had both and I prefer the one big door. The wall dividing the doors would get in the way sometimes. Looks great!

Yeah I vacillated back and forth between one and two doors. My intent is to park my car in the left bay, my motorcycles in the middle and shop area on the right. I decided that two doors made a clearer definition between car and bikes and would reduce bike exposure a little to blow in weather each time I take the car in and out. One smaller door opening might also reduce the interior temp change a little.

Its going to be a few months yet as I am wiring and drywalling myself and i can only devote so much time to it. So we could be riding again by the grand opening.

Finally the siding is done. It has taken a good while with weather delays and what could be the lyrics to a C&W song. One of the guys dog got hit by a car and then his wife left him. That stopped work for some days. Then the crew leader got locked up on a child support issue. They do really nice work when they are there however. Just needs caulk and gutters now.

Loads to do inside yet but the siding crew have taken over the space while they re-side the house to match. So next month before I get to start on wiring and epoxy coat the floor.

But, if you want an really excellent, old school CW song then you need to include: (1) a jukebox, (2) a honkytonk (3) momma and (4) a lonesome train whistle off in the dark.

I'm going to run a gas line out from thr house and hang a 40,000 btu garage heater from the rafters. And it will get a wall mounted AC unit for the summer as well Very Happy

Think bigger...I installed a 500000 btu in my insulated 16x25 shop...its a Modine hot dawg and its hooked up to propane. I should have bought the 8000000btu . Mind you I don't heat it to 80 degrees but bigger in this case would have been better... all depends what temp you want to work in .
