Identify This Bike

A co-worker of mine dug up this picture that was taken when she was very young and on the back of a bike with her dad. He recently passed away and she asked me if I could tell her what the year, make and model is. I have no idea - does anyone here know?

Tom, My first look at it I'm thinking 60's Sachs or possibly a Ducati.

I'm going to say Italian. Ducati like jt said, Gilera, Benneli and others from this era looked very much alike. It not for the gas tank its a dead ringer for a Sears 106ss made by Gilera.

The picture was taken in 1970, so the bike is definitely from the 60's. Sounds like you guys are zooming in on the make and model. Keep going!

Take a look. I think it is a Sears 106ss. They were late 60's.
I actually own this one.

Just seeing the chain guard on the right side eliminated me from the guessing.

Rear frame, tank pad, and headlight bucket look like a match.

The front flanges on the gas tank also match up. The only mystery remaining is the year of the bike, but that isn't as important. That could be difficult or impossible to determine.

Just imagine - back in the day you could order a bike from the Sears catalog. Would it arrive at your doorstep or did one have to go to the store to pick it up? I told my co-worker what it was and she couldn't believe her dad bought a bike from Sears. She's happy to know a little more now.

From the research I did, i learned they were the same exact for 4-5 years. somewhere between late 60s early 70's. Probably have to go buy the serial 3 but who knows where to find a data base. I only know mine is a 69 cause I have original papers. I also bought an old catalog on ebay so I could see them in there. I'll try and find and scan the page.

Someone in my town is ripping around on an old Sears Motorcycle, haven't had a chance to talk to him yet but it looks a lot like that 106.

No luck yet. Has to be in a box at my moms. I have just recently moved and thought I had it in my new house.
