Dave called me a little while ago and sounded good. He has two surgeries scheduled over the next several days, so hopefully he'll be more "buttoned up" after they're done. I didn't realize it but he's been in the hospital since late June and will probably be there for a couple more weeks. He's going a little stir crazy, but all things considering, he sounded pretty upbeat. I told him that if he's in good shape by next spring, he has no choice but to come on the spring NE ride. He agreed, so let's all keep praying for him and having good thoughts so that he heals up fast and gets back to his old self.
We all need to appreciate our good health. I'm very thankful.

Update:
Alaskagriz has transferred to a rehab facility. He has taken some "independent" steps. Good luck Dave on your way to full recovery.

That's great news Dave - thanks for letting us know. That first 50 feet is the toughest. It will get easier every day, I promise you.
Next year's spring ride is a definite for you. Perhaps a lobster roll in Plymouth a day or two ahead of the ride?

Just spoke to Dave. He is upbeat and optimistic about his future. He still has a tough road ahead: He can walk with a walker under supervision and is starting to transition to solid foods. The rehab facility specializes in getting people to the point where they can be discharged and be on they're way to return to work. That day is about two weeks away and Dave is looking forward to that day when he can go home and spend some quality time with Pam.
There are still some tune-up surgeries in Dave's future as he regains his strength. He told me that he couldn't have survived this ordeal without his beloved wife, she helped him stay focused and positive as he underwent the surgeries. Dave also mentioned that all the good words of encouragement from this Forum gave him sustenance to go on.
Stay strong Dave.

Great news John - the fact that Dave is starting to eat solid food again is VERY encouraging.
