On Saturday we pulled my 81 CB750 F out of the shed. It has been in storage for 2 yrs, wrapped in blankets. I have been himing and hawing for the last while as to what to do with it ( my wife said there was no way in hell i could sell it... yes my wife is a wonderful woman), My oldest son (24) has been trying to convince me to let him customize it......and i have flatly said NO...I have owned this bike for so long that i forget how long ,( i bought it from my brother i'm thinking 32 yrs ago. I enjoyed every single ride i have taken it on and it has NEVER let me down. But Saturday i let go.....The bike now belongs to my son Andrew , He promised that he will not chop it and it will remain original so to speak. he wants to leave the original paint and looks, I'm very pleased about that. It was tough to let it go, but i'm sure he will enjoy it for yrs to come as i have in the past, Nice to pass this kind of stuff of to your children. My boys have learned to wrench, ride the street, dirt and road race track with me and that my friends is one of the greatest pleasures one can ask for...
We hooked up fresh gas, installed the battery and it came to life with very minimal cranking and purred like a kitten...... Man that Kerker sounded nice
He has all the calipers off already and we will be freshening up the brakes , tires and most bearings in the next while....... should be good to go by the end of summer ..maby sooner. I know he will enjoy it as much as i have...

Good on ya, Ed! I hope he'll appreciate it through the years. How cool would it be to have "My Dad's Bike"?
Tell him we said Ride Safely! |

Ed, that sounds like the perfect scenario.
Get your son to join the site so he can tell us what a great father he has. |

What a good idea! The wife and I just finished a whirlwind 700 mile stroll around Michigan and it has become obvious that any trip in the future is going to require "more" bike.
I thought about selling my 900 but it gave me a sick spot in my stomach...I'll just save it for my son(s). |

Ed, just found this thread. Nice to have passed such a loved machine on to a family member.
I really am hoping to get one more Ice House visit in this month. Won't be this weekend or next, but weather permitting,
I'll shoot for the 23rd.
If your son has the 750 road ready, it would be cool is you both could come out for a breakfast run.
Hope to see you soon!

Great post Ed. Almost had me in tears, but then I realized I hadn't eaten lunch
The bike is in good hands. Andrew is top notch.
Good on you big fella! |

I used to have a 1966 Lemans that I bought in 1989. It was a basket case at the time, and over the next 15 years or so, I got it pretty nice. The whole time I would work on it, my son would sit in the yard playing video games. Never once did he get up to see what I was doing or to learn anything. Fast forward to 2008, and I got to the point it was more hassle getting it started and out of the garage than it was worth, so I sold it for a decent profit. My son got mad because I guess he thought I was going to give it to him. Now understand, he was a Marine, did two tours in Afghanistan and won a Purple Heart, so he's no slacker. Even now, he show no interest in either of my bikes, but probably expects to get them when I die.
I always wished he did show more interest in my hobbies, so that we could have done many things together. You're quite lucky! |

Took it for a nice ride on Saturday. The bike feels very at home with the new rubber, tracks well , smooth transition from left to right and very neutral in mid turn ..all of the characteristics we hope for...we did not push too hard in the corners because of the outside temps and leafs on the ground but there were NO issues leaning the bike... felt very good, should have no issues scraping stands and pegs.... I installed Avon radials on the 1100 and have the same results.. I would highly recommend any radial upgrade to the CBF bikes.. time will tell the ware characteristics but i;m not too concerned....traction comes first .
