Here she is, the first bike to roll out of db Customs, and going to Victoria BC Canada. Took 6 months from start to finish. This is by no means a replica, but a tribute to the #19 CB-F superbike. We tried to stay true to the heritage, but add a modern twist and a bit of other things that the customer wanted.

Spectacular!
Hopefully the new owner joins the site. It would be great to hear some follow-up report/pics.
Darren, do you have a pic of the bike on the side stand or in motion?
Just wanted to see the stance without the lift. |

Darren, if I'm out of line ignore me, as we all know that restoring any old bike it is a labor of love and we do it for ourselves and never expect to get back the dollars we spend on them let alone any for the effort we put in. How do you charge for this? the amount of hours you have spent on this few of us could comprehend. I know there are people out there with pockets of money, but usually they are not big riders, mostly collectors. Where does the new owner sit in this, a rider or collector. That bike looks too good to be ridden

He has a few bikes, some of them might be considered collectible however he is a rider and tracks an RC51. He has alluded to doing a few track days with this, but for the most part it will be ridden casually, be shown at meets, and be admired.
I charge like any other "honest" and efficient business. I estimate my hours based on how long it takes to do things, based on actual experience, and include a mark up on parts (I am a dealer for many of the parts I incorporate in my builds). In all honesty, many people who try to undertake this work for their own builds spend more money in the long run than what I charge, and often they get frustrated with the timeline it takes (seems a never ending project), they give up, part out the bike, lose their shirt, or if they do finally complete it, the quality isn't always there. Here you get a fair priced machine, first rate parts, top quality craftsmanship, and a 6 month deliverable. |

Thanks Steve, appreciate it.
I tell you, probably the most difficult thing I did was to drill into those side covers and add the dzus fasteners, but they were essential to secure them firmly and they are representative of the superbike. Customer loves them too.
There are a few odds and ends to finish, such as the rear brake light banjo bolt pressure switch, bleed the brakes, add a more secure exhaust hanger bracket ... and dial in the Dyna ignition. Plus get the petcock all sorted out.
Thanks for all the comments! |

Outside of the obvious bolting on of a plethora of pretty and functional parts, can you tell us about any fabrication work that was done by you (or outsourced)? |
