i think you misunderstood me.

it's not called nuts and bolts. what i meant was these upgrades for oil hoses that run from the oil-cooler which have a more modern look and they, from what i understand, are a quite popular upgrade both for style as well as functionality.
the connections on the hoses i've seen are colored pink and blue, i do believe the same kind of style and color is used on an oil-mod where the oilhose is somehow relocated.

so it wasn't my intention to be a smartass, i'm just a fan of both style and functionality.

don't take this as an apology, it's merely an explanation i don't enjoy writing of what i think was a misunderstanding.
i'm probably as provoked as you are after having to write this shit.

added a picture of a bike from this site. with the pink and blue connectors. quite stylish. i like it.

Those are -AN (army navy) high pressure hydraulic connectors, and the coloring isn't really one of their most important features ... even though they look nice... They are used mainly due to their reliability and functionality.

Those basic cost estimates are quite likely on the lowish side IMO, and not really for a completely fettled and ready to go race bike.

The bike that Brent has developed has been developed over decades of continuous R&D since these bikes were new, and is by far a much more highly developed design than has ever been produced on these bikes before.

You really do need to use the search engine on the site and read everything you can find that's been posted here about Brent's bikes and his mods. It will be quite a good education on engine design, as well as many facets of critical thinking on many aspects of the design subjects.

My son is heavily involved with speedway racing in NZ and everything is based around horsepower and the dollars spent, the more horsepower the more dollars need to be spent. Every second season they airfreight their motor back to the States for a refresh, including the airfreight the rebuild cost is half that in NZ. Speedway is big deal in the States so plenty of builders, but in Brents case he is a one off builder pushing the boundaries on development of an old engine design. I agree with Gene the figures quoted are probably only a starting point

i don't care if those hoseconnectors are made from solid gold. theyre colored bright pink and thats impossible to not notice unless you're colorblind. and don't give me the search engine run around. you tried that earlier in this thread and i let it slide but it's getting real old real fast. frankly it's pretty fucking annoying to read that passive aggressive searchengine comment designed to kill threads.

fact is i made a thread in the general chit chat forum on a topic that generated a few nice comments apart from the grumpy passive aggressive search comment and the out of nowhere passive aggressive accusation of mentioning bright red pink hoseconnectors that stand out like fake tits on a 25 year old. 'they where impossible to unsee and whoever made them in bright pink has to be colorblind or blindly performance-oriented.

Well I'm just sayin it's all been discussed and written about before and there is a way for you to find out for yourself. But now it seems like you think you're so special that everyone should come and service you hand and foot and type it out all over again just for you? Right. Get busy and take some responsibility for your own education. You sit here with the best educational tool you could hope for and you want it all spoon fed to you. Have a nice wait.

I guess it's the Earl's hose ends that are mostly red and blue anodized aluminum. There are other brands you can get if you like your stuff more plain. The steel hose end parts for brakes are usually silver....

I thought it was a language barrier at first, but our friend 'super' has pulled this crap before.

http://www.cb1100f.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=80239&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It's a shame, really. I like the topic and the knowledge it brings out. It's gets me thinking about that spare motor in the garage and all the things I can learn and do.
But I have to stop reading when I see this sort of sniping.

Would you like someone to show you how to turn a wrench too? Maybe how to read a manual? By the way, you should care because he has offered and contributed more to this forum (both in content and administratively) than probably any current or past member ever has. The search engine is a valuable tool, and once you know how to use it there is a pot of gold waiting for you. If you are passionate about these bikes, you will use the search function and LEARN and then come back with questions, like everyone else does. The title of this thread indicates that you lack a basic understanding of making power, and so it would not hurt to read, and read, and then read some more .... and then oh ya, read some more.

NOW, to answer your primary question. I think for most people, money is better spent by lightening up the bike. Light exhaust, light wheels, light suspension components, etc. It is typically cheaper than engine work and it makes the bike more nimble and accelerate faster (unsprung weight). Much more fun to ride. You want more power? Think displacement and flow. You want power, efficiency, and RELIABILITY ..... then read every post that Captain has started on this site.

Except for the spelling and grammar it is like rod has returned.
Maybe it is his long-lost twin?

Well, I beg to differ. If you are chasing horsepower, you may be looking at the wrong bike in 2016 when you look at a 1979-1983 Bol d'Or. I would dare to say that most here love these bikes for other reasons than their performance.

^ Correct answer. Very Happy

I disagree, it is far more rewarding to have engineered an "F" to be more powerful than an FZ1 and I will continue to keep doing so. If I can then anyone can and I have tried to help/inform how it can be done as some are interested. Not all of course but enough that I keep getting asked about how to this day.
Anyone can buy an FZ but then what's the point as then the subject is not about the "F's"
Do not take offence at any of this as I offer it up purely as my thoughts on the matter.

Captain

learned a great lesson about HP many moons ago ( showing my age Laughing ) when I got well and truly spanked by a Ducati 900SS when I was riding a well sorted GPZ900 - its how it makes the HP that counts - old school long stroke engines make lovely HP

The easy, proven - basically bolt up and go route to around 115 hp with a bucket load of torque = fit a 1100F engine with wiseco 72mm pistons and 33mm smooth bore carbs
you can achieve this by fitting 1100 barrels to your 900 along with 1100 rods
anything more is an exponential scale of diminishing returns of knowledge / cost and complexity - i.e. more and more for less and less reward - thats the std model for any tuning though - the 115 hp version as described is where you start climbing this curve

If you like the CB900 - and you like the old school torque based engines - but not specifically focussed on keeping it CB900 engine based, then fit a GSXR 1100 L or M engine ( keeping the finned - none water cooled engine) this engine is probably the master class of this type of thing
you'll get something like 125 to 130 hp std with a bucket full of torque at any rpm

and if you like this idea - I recently took one out of my Harris - engine / all electrics / oil cooler and hoses / carbs - basically a complete kit, if this interests you
