G'day all,
I took the Triumph out for a short run yesterday (Friday) arvo around a short loop not far from home, I've only been back riding for a couple of weeks now since my crash at Phillip Island in January but this was the first ride fast ride. What a great feeling to be swinging bends again at speed. After the good bit came the boring bit back into town & after about 5km the little bit of adrenaline had worn off my arm and shoulder hurt like fuck, but the pain was worth it, anyway there is pain killers & alcohol at home. The world is becoming rosy again.

Today I got my left fork leg stripped down
A mate who's into old Brit Irons, Velocettes in particular, who therefore has some specialist tools came over to help. We got that rounded out socket screw out, without the need for drilling. Then it was just a case of getting the rest of it stripped down, the usual troubles but a bit of WD40, patience and persistence got it done
A painful phone call to Mr David Silver will have to be made.
A short trip to see the powder coating guy and the painter guy next weekend and hopefully I'll be ready to start putting it back together again very soon |

I finished putting my freshly powder coated gold boomies back together today. They have new wheel bearings, new tires, powder coated rotors, and are balanced. These will be going on my red 1100F in the very near future.

I added some TomK bling to my bike. PC Valve Cover and Alternator Cover. Thanks Tom, they look great.
Finished up checking valves and buttoned everything back up. See the attached pictures.

well this was fun.
thanks to tomk, mike nixon and jack wagner for answering my questions during this clean/rebuild. i used a randakk kit and a bolt kit from seang on the 750c site. used the nixon manual and macgregor manual.
i have a huge ultrasonic and good/appropriate tools at work that worked for me on for this. it was my first in depth go at cleaning carbs. i did it on my cx500 which are similar, if not the same, but i didn't get so in depth. anyway i'm happy with the results. the insides are as clean if not more so than the outside. i hope they work

The weather in Sydney has been fantastic this week. Fortunately I was home, but I had to spend most of it studying for a course I am starting in Melbourne on Monday. I had sent some of the engine side panels, valve cover and rear sets off the 985 to be stripped and refinished (powder coat was not done satisfactorily). The 900f2 was rideable, but compression is low and power is nowhere near the same as the 985. Given the discussion on another thread about possible bent valves, I have decided that I will not run it and pull the engine. If I am going to do that, I will do a complete resto learning from the mistakes made on the 985. Anyway, I had to pull some of the bits of the 900F2 to get the 985 running. Also had a set of CRs on that had not been adjusted or tuned or even run yet.
Took me most of Thursday to get it together, and no time to test or adjust, but went for a 300 km ride with fellow member Robbo on his new Yamaha Friday. Last ride for 3-4 months while I am away training. Bikes are now put away...

Today I finally finished my wheel swap project. I got two very tired looking gold boomies from Wout last year and I powder coated them over the winter. Front and rear rotors were also powder coated gold to match, along with the speedo sender unit. New wheel bearings, stems, and tires finished them off. Yesterday I finished putting them on the bike.
It was also a good time to swap out the original OEM rubber brake lines. I replaced them with new black SS braided Spiegler lines, courtesy of J.R. from CBXtras. The lines are of very high quality and look great. They come with plenty of new crush washers for a leakproof installation. I like how the banjo fittings can be rotated for perfect fitment - that's a huge benefit with these lines. If you want a set, J.R. is your man!
20 minutes of bleeding and the brakes feel good. I took it for a quick ride and it seems to be fine. Now I have to replace the starter, which seems to be on its last legs.

Started my bike today. She sounds great but........... oil leak on the Tach Drive. I forgot to get a new gasket to go with the PC valve cover I got from TomK. So, it will be another week before I'm riding for the summer.

I rode my hotrod 1100F for a while. I like this bike, it's fun to ride...
Then, late afternoon, I buttoned up a few issues on my all original 1100F that had been sitting for 7-8 months. I had a battery tender on it as well as spiking the tank with Sta-bil.. Also, ran it through the neighborhood insuring gas treatment would be in the system before storing for the winter. It started right up and ran great..
It's 100% complete, 99% original(has CBR-F2 coils & wires)... |

Best of both worlds with these 2 beauties.
Feel like going for a ride, take the red one.
Feel like going for a back road romp, take the blue one. |

Well again I didn't actually DO anything, but all the parts I ordered to refurb' my front suspension arrived
All I need now is for my bike painter to finish painting and I can start putting it all back together again.
Hopefully this bit of summery type weather we're getting isn't this years summer. |

Had a nice tail light with a few stripped threads so tried out the Meatl Gear Works repair kit:
Just drill out the mounting posts to accept the self-tapping threaded repair posts and done:
Currently less than $7 for the kit at Webike: http://japan.webike.net/products/20709096.html |

I purchased new bolts for the left side alt case. One fell out some place. Then I washed it, waxed it, and petted it, |

Yet again, I haven't actually done anything.
However I've got some new Billet parts for it.
My mate made them, new back-up rings for the front end
I went over to see him a couple of months ago and mentioned, as you do, the saga of my front suspension refurb' and bikes paint job.
The backup rings from Dave Silvers not fitting was part of this saga. So he said, "I've got a lathe, turning the inner circumference out will be easy enough". So we wandered out to his workshop. I gave him the two new rings and the good old one. He measured the inner circumferences, it's only about a millimetre. Then he thought he'd measure the outside circumference and then compared the old against the new. Totally different sizes.
So he turned me up a pair of back-up rings, just for the challenge of it
How cool is that ?
Here they are, with the good one I took out of my bike.

Weather too nice to muck about in the garage today. I checked the tire pressures plus the usual pre-flight inspection and took her for a quick blast.
Chuckling in my helmet as I rolled into the garage. Great to be still sucking air and riding! |

Cleaned up the left side engine covers and found a scratch in the previously NOS cover.

I am sure you know this Cary but just in case you don't.. you can buy a superfine scotch brite wheel (if you can find it) and mount it on your bench grinder. That scratch can be slowly and gently worked out with an even and light touch. Then can be repolished. |

Yep. Fifteen minutes on a convolute wheel and buffer and it looks like new (Except for removing the protective coating).

did something nasty - you guys may even consider it a form of filicide
stripped a 16" boomie front (VF) and an 18" rear (CBX) to get an idea of what this combo would be like ref: weight for a 18" x 2.5"wide front wheel - summary is - heavy plan B |

Confused ... why not just ask one of us to weigh an 18 x 2.5 front boomie for you?

it was the rim weight specifically I needed - the idea was / is to use the fully flanged rim for providing 360deg mounting points - 18"x 2.5" for size ref: front i.e. use a rear rim flanged up to a front hub |
