When I bought my CB900F I received 2 sets of wheels with the bike but haven't worked out which ones are supposed to be the right ones, it's late 1982 the build date and I will attach the 2 pictures with this post.
If anyone can tell which ones are supposed to be the right ones it would be great with the blue front guard. |

The silver boomerang comstars are the correct ones. |

It may be registered in 82 but it's not an 82 model.
In 1982 the FC and faired F2C models had rubber mounted engines, the engines were black, they had TRAC antidive forks and the silver boomerang comstars as in your second pic.
The 1981 FB and faired F2B had solid mounted engines and plain front forks, no TRAC.
The unfaired FB had a black frame and black with silver highlights reverse comstars, the same style but different colour as your first and third pic.
The faired F2B had a red frame if the colour scheme was red, or a black frame if the colour scheme was grey, and gold reverse comstars exactly as your first and third pic.
The easy way to tell is by the chassis number.
The F2 in the model description refers to the bike coming from th factory with the fairing fitted.

Different areas and countries had different model variations. It is difficult to make statements like that across continents. Little of what you stated applies to the U.S., for example. |

This is very true Rob. In fact none of what I've said applies to the U.S. models.
They are quite different to Aus/Euro/JDM etc.
There were also quite a few variations and differences on JDM models compared to Aus/Euro models, but from I've learnt the Aus models were pretty much exactly the same as the Euro models in terms of model designation by year and specification, and the chassis numbers quoted should be good for both markets. |

The red fender is an 1100F piece as I see it. It will work better with the 18" diameter wheel (silver boomerang config). The blue fender is a standard 750/900 piece and fits better with the 19" diameter wheels of the five spoke Comstar design. So would go Blue fender/gold wheels. Red fender/silver wheels. What's the diameter of the fork tubes...37mm or 39mm?

The frame looks like a solid mount frame.
What are the first 6 letters / digits of the frame number stamped into the steering head? |

Did you get two front ends also? Why the cover change on the lower sliders?

So a solid mount frame but and the gold wheels are correct.
The bike originally had a full fairing but the late 82 date does not make sense unless that was the date first registered rather than the build date.
Is the alloy compliance plate still on the bike?
does the frame number on that match the steering stem stamp? |

In which case you have a 1981 model CB900F2B.
It would have left the factory with the gold reverse comstars and black forks.
It also would have had the factory fairing fitted.
That were available in red/white with a red frame, or grey/white with a black frame so would have originally looked like either of the pics below. Most likely the red white as your bike has a red frame, but that's without knowing if the red on the frame is original or painted red at some stage during its life. |

The man I got it from painted forks in gold house paint, don't ask me why but it's coming of and black forks will come back . Frame no and compliance no same on stem as for a fairing I don't have it and that's what I thought it don't have money to buy one so I will keep gold wheels and 4 into 2 and that's as close as I can get it . I think it will still look good like that .
Thankyou for everybody's input as it has helped. If anybody can come up with a fairing please let me know as Iam on a pension money comes in drips and drabs . I will check compliance to see the exact month when I get home again .

The thing to remember most is that it's your bike, so regardless of how it came from the factory you should make it however you want it, original or not.
If you do find a fairing for it make sure you get all the various brackets and fittings to go with it, these are often lost and can be difficult to get hold of individually. |
