numerous people have, when speaking their pretty innocent mind, lost their job and/or been hung out to dry on the front page of newspapers. some have been imprisoned.

not to long ago we had reporters trying to publicly shame people for comments online. they even made a show about it. some 75-year-old-lady who didn't like paki's had a homevisit from one of the larger medias where she, in front of the camera and the paki-journalist, was forced to retract her "racist-views" - live on tv.

haha, and just what do you plan on posting? I mean this is a bike group for enthusiasts. What could you possibly post that would cause you to have any of those things happen to you? Social media should be treated like you would a real social experience. Just because you are hidden behind your keyboard doesn't give you free reign to do whatever. Just be respectful and courteous. You can keep your profile private so others can not search for you, and you can upload a picture of your bike as your profile pic, if keeping your anonymity is important.

i don't plan on posting anything. i'm just saying that whatever you choose to post is held against you and in my country which is small, a post can lead to the loss of a job or a ruined family.

i'm all for free speach. unfortunately we don't have that where i live.

It's a sad situation to live where free speech is not allowed. Here in the U.S., you definitely need to be careful what you post online because it can be used against you in many ways. I have no doubt that most companies now do a thorough online search of all potential interviewees and if they see anything questionable posted on that person's Facebook page or elsewhere, they'll never get an interview.

It's even worse, when 10 or so years later a post, jobs can be lost and careers ruined. Even for innocuous comments.

Clearly you're not reading CTDY. Smile

LOL.....I was thinking the same thing. The good thing about confining your online socializing and off-color commentary to a site like this is that an employer is less likely to find it. They would have to do some digging. Lots of employers go straight to Facebook by default. I see towerhands doing stupid shit on Facebook with no thought to whether or not their boss or potential boss might see it. Posting pics on jobsites with no hardhats, pictures of guys 300 feet in the air without being tied off, partying in the company truck, just major safety violations and they don't even have enough sense to lock down their page so that only friends see it.

I'm really not into the whole Facebook thing, if I wanted to speak to people I went to high school with then I never would have lost contact with them to begin with. About the only reason I even have an account is for companies and parts vendors who are too damn lazy to update their websites. Then they start getting burnt out on Facebook and want to start Instagramming and they want customers to join another platform and follow them there. Nope, if a company makes it too hard for me to keep up with them then I just won't bother. I'm not going to chase after them from one site to another just because they have ADD.

If an employer or potential employer can see your profile, then you aren't facebook'ing correctly. You can set what can be seen and what can't... But this is going off topic. You can keep in touch however you like, but it'll never connect you to as many people as facebook can. I'm not talking about high school sweethearts either. I'm talking about all the people who own F bikes that aren't on this forum, from around the world. I think the intent of this original post was just to make aware that these facebook group exists, not whether or not you like facebook. All that other stuff (what ppl see, what you type), you can control, but you can't control where people are connected too. So it's either you conform, or don't. I don't like what facebook has become either, but I'm aware that it's usefulness outweighs the negative. Either way, I hope everyone does what they like =) I don't want to ramble, everyone have a great weekend.

I only started using Facebook about 18 months ago, i only use it to keep in touch with a few friends, ex work mates and belong to a few Bike groups

I am glad I did as I managed to score a CB1100RC project bike last week from a UK member of one of the groups for a very good price, and luckily i spotted it 3 minutes after it was posted for sale, sent the owner a message i would take it

It is a complete bike that need restoring, has not been on the road since 1992 and only has 17850 miles on it

So yes i am loving FB at the moment

Hi Russ the exhaust is a Motad Neta 4-1, i will not be using it as they do not clear the lower fairing, will be fitting a 4-2, as this bike is a low mile bike will be getting a good restore with a new replica exhaust

Oh, and I think faecesbook is like a black hole for time.

Watching people spend countless hours reading the piss-dribble of the minutiae of other people's lives makes me happy not to be a user.

I will admit to a bi-monthly read of the David Silvers page but who really gives a rats arse if such and such went out to dinner and posted a picture of their meal? Or even worse a selfie?

If I took a woman out to dinner and she started taking photos of the meal, it would be a very short evening.
