Facebook Group

Several of the forums im a member of also have a facebook group. not only does it bring new members to the forum, but i like putting names with faces and having the ability to make contact with folks outside of the forum through FB or FB messenger. its a little less formal and a little more personal . i cant always check the forums everyday but its nice still keeping up with everyone/friends made here or other forums. im a member of a dohc fb group on there already but it doesnt seem to be affiliated at all.

IE:
z71 tahoe/suburban forum fb page has 1800 members
hawk gt forum fb page has 808
CB1000R forum page has 7200 members
vfr800 group has 995
sohc4 group has 1100
the two dohc groups im in have 4300 and 5900 members but are unaffiliated?

any interest?

Well, you have to "be on" Facebook to participate in a Facebook group. I am not and I will not sign up for a Facebook account.

Most of my use of facebook is networking for my business and to keep in touch with 4-5 close people that live throughout the world that i dont talk to everyday

I fought this long and hard too. But I eventually caved in....
Being involved with animal rescue and helping run a shelter. (in my spare time LOL) this is how they communicate in the dog rescue world.
What I did was set up a new gmail account and facebook account, but everything is in my dogs name.
So it's really her account and I communicate in the 3rd person. Everyone that knows me and the pooch knows who it is.
I have fun with it that way.
None of my personal info goes on facebook. Even my avatar here is my girl. (one of them anyway....)

I know it's fun to hate Facebook and I don't blame anyone for it but I still have an account there.My "friends" would annoy normal people to death but I don't mind them.That said I belong to the CB900F Riders/Owners group.

It's a great tool when used the right way. A lot of my wedding photography revenue is generated on facebook. All but 1 of 5 custom bike builds that I have sold since November 2015 as db Customs have come through contacts on facebook. Much of my contacts associated with my motorsports photography has come through facebook and Instagram.

The Vintage Road Racing Association has a FB page. Its a great place for members to post photos and to keep in touch. Like petrat says its a great tool when used the right way. Only close friends and my family have access to my profile.

I've had a Facebook account for years but only go on there maybe once or twice a month. The most useful thing I found with it is contacting old friends that I lost contact with many years ago. Finding just a couple of them made it worthwhile. For months I've had several people tell me that I should set up a Facebook account for my Tom's Cycle Recycling. I kept putting it off, but I finally set one up a few days ago. I have spare time on my hands at the moment, so I figured I'd give it a shot. If it brings in some new business and gets me more exposure, than it will have been worth the effort. Only time will tell.

There are quite a few of the forum members who belong to a FB group CB750F/CB900F/CB1100F/R CBX Tom, maybe you should join that group, may give you a bit more exposure

There's a lot of people on there doing stuff to their bikes and looking for help and guidance. Whilst we point them here from time to time, being part of that community wouldn't hurt, since whilst there is some crossover, its a big population in its own right.

It is good exposure for This Forum and for the bikes we love and care for/about. It is also far more active and has more active members than this Forum board. I have met re-acquainted with a lot of old guys from racing so for me at least it has served a good purpose. You can use it also as an additional resource for parts and bikes. You don't have to put any personal info on there if you don't want and can set up a separate e-mail account just to link with it....so it's served a purpose for me, but like everything else, it's not for everybody and is a personal choice.

I got my FB account to spite my ex after she got one when we were still married. Literally within a week, 40 of my old girlfriends had looked me up. In a month, I had 100+ FB "friends", all women..my ex was crowing "I have 31 friends" I started laughing. She came in screaming at me about an hour later

That's a very very cool way to spend your spare time helping out puppy dogs.

Clever way to do a face book account.

My daughter and wife set one up for me about 18 months ago so I could stay in contact while they were traveling. I haven't really used it since because I don't know how but maybe it's time to practice

There's really no reason not too, Count how many times a day you click refresh on this forum, only to see the same posts you've read already. now add a few clicks and be connected to 5921 more people! These are just a few, I'm sure there's more.

where i'm from, posting on facebook is the equivalent of talking to a cop. anything you say can and will be used against you in a public display of power.

numerous people have, when speaking their pretty innocent mind, lost their job and/or been hung out to dry on the front page of newspapers. some have been imprisoned.

not to long ago we had reporters trying to publicly shame people for comments online. they even made a show about it. some 75-year-old-lady who didn't like paki's had a homevisit from one of the larger medias where she, in front of the camera and the paki-journalist, was forced to retract her "racist-views" - live on tv.

i get where you're coming from. however, in my experience, the old saying about idiots dragging you down to their level and beating you with experience is still valid.

haha, and just what do you plan on posting? I mean this is a bike group for enthusiasts. What could you possibly post that would cause you to have any of those things happen to you? Social media should be treated like you would a real social experience. Just because you are hidden behind your keyboard doesn't give you free reign to do whatever. Just be respectful and courteous. You can keep your profile private so others can not search for you, and you can upload a picture of your bike as your profile pic, if keeping your anonymity is important.
