R tank, F body work?

Has anyone tried an R tank with F bodywork? R's are cool but the tail section doesn't do much for me. Love the tank and it looks like if positioned correctly it would match up to the F side covers. Did a few searches and could not find anything. Might look like the Spencer replica that was made from a new CB1100.

Thanks Darren. I knew someone would have done it and that it would look awesome! Keep the F lines with kinda of an updated look with the contoured tank. Hmmmmm.....now I need a tank!

Hello Russ,the R tank works shorter than the Original. So you can pull back the tank to fit the reartankbolt,but than there is to much space at the front between the tank and the frame.
Also you have to watch out with the fuell tap,meaning that they are short on the carbs,so positioning the tank is important.
I have done some work for a member on brackets to fit the R tank on an F frame,and also have build a special fuell tap that fit`s without contact to the carbs.

The guy with the name CB1100RR is a dutch fella ,how he has rebuild the frame to fit the tank I don`t know.But can ask him about this.
Don`t think he is often on the forum so if you want I can give a message to him and he can responde in this tread.

Yes Rob I am very willing to spend 500 dollars if I can find one that cheap. Is there still a company (in Germany I think?) that makes replica body work?

And Darren it looks like a VFR 750 (maybe Ducati?) swing arm. With the under tail exhaust! I must have seen this bike before and don't remember because that is all stuff I'm thinking about for my track bike! But I want the F tail and side covers. If I want an R6 or a CBR I will buy one.

Before i turned my F into a Streetfighter i had a replica R tank on. Because i also had the USD forks i had less space so ik had to drag the tank a bit backwards. Because i ad the side panels on the bike too i had to modify the tank a bit.
Later when i started the single sided arm i decided to go radical and turned it into what she is now. See the pic i added Smile

I think 6 or 7 years ago both Fasterspider and Powerroy used R tanks on their F.

Yes, both did ...... cbxdog owns the one Roy built. ANDY also fitted an R tank to an F ..... so did Tdem ...... but these were all accompanied with an R tail.

It can be done easily. I believe you can use the same rear mount, but you must change the location of the front rubber mounts (move them back).

I took a load of pictures years back (I think for Ray when he was doing this) which showed the R tank on an F frame. This is the only one I can find now. God knows where they've gone?

But it clearly shows the difference of the rear mounting points!

Thanks Andy. Darren's link (and the links I found because of it thank you very much Petrat) showed me some of the issues I'm going to run into. Seems if I move the rear mount forward and use the existing front mounts I will have tank to handlebar interference (Not good. You can't counter steer at low speeds Shocked

) so any info or pics you guys can share will be a BIG help.

Another thing is fitting with the side covers. That might be the deciding factor of where I can place the tank?

Move the front mounts back and use the existing rear mount. All you need to do is drill a hole through the webbing at the front, insert a tube through (the same diameter as the tube that is already there to hold the rubber mounts in position), and weld it in place. The lines of the R tank are wider than those of the side panels so you will never get perfect alignment between them.

You can also make pieces out of aluminum to fit into the mounts on the tank, which will effectively move these forward to hold onto the stock tank rubber mounts.
