I went for a lovely ride on Friday about 250kms, everything went great. On Saturday morning went for a ride down the coast to meet another member. The bike needed refuelling from Friday. All still going great. Filled her up with 98 ultra. Back on the hwy for about. 40kms. When I stopped at the lights the bike was idling high. About 3000rpm. I turned it back to 1200 rpm. When I eventually got home, about another 70kms the bike was still running really rough. I pulled all the plugs, they all were the same colour, all looked normal. But the bike is still definitely running rough.
The obvious thing is fuel! Should I ditch all the fuel. Pull the bottom bolts on the CRs and drain. And start again. |

Was it a busy fuel station? If they don't sell enough high octane I could see it being an issue. Otherwise, I wouldn't expect a problem with it. But then I don't live anywhere near your fuel sources. |

I've been using the 98 ultraBP pump fuel since the rebuild. I will try the 91 standard stuff. |

Hey gene, yes it was a very popular servo. I did some more investigation this arvo. There was a little bit of fine stuff (particals) in the in line filter before the carbs. I will replace the filter. I did drain the bowls on all the carbs into a small dish. There seemed to be a lot (noticeable) difference in the amount of fuel that came out of # 4 carb compared to all the rest. Maybe a blocked jet?
When it first happened it felt like it was running on 3 cylinders, but when I got home I felt the temp on all off the header pipes, and they all felt the same, very hot. So I'm guessing it is a carb problem not a cylinder problem. Thoughts please |

Check that something isn't caught up in the (float) needle valve causing it to not get good flow? I had that happen from crap in my tune up bottle one time. It's important of course that all the bowls fill properly to the right level. |

Any one that recommends REGULAR is an ASSHOLE. It takes the increased octane of High test to prevent spark rattle. Oh and all gasoline is the same,if it has water it wont burn. |

Some carbs have a gauze filter above the float needle, maybe that is clogged on 3 of the 4 carbs
I would stick with the highest octane fuel available with your 1123, 91 octane is way too low if you are using Wiseco? 1123 kit
Is your High octane Fuel like the super unleaded they use in Europe, we get 97 or 98 octane, or is it high octane leaded fuel? Like the 101 octane Leaded we used to get in the UK in the good old days

Today I had some luck. I just replaced the in line filter from the tank to the carbs, put some more 98 pump fuel in and she's going like a dream again. So I suppose it was just a load of bad fuel?
I also fitted a knew bikini fairing to the front. What a difference to the wind that made. So now when I'm giving it the berries, it doesn't feel like I'm going to get blown off the back. And I think it also looks pretty good to. Just have to get it painted. Winning again |

Well I thought I had fixed the running rough problem, but no it is still happening. I did about 40 kms from my place when I came to a set of lights. I did notice that the bike wasn't quite right. But I thought it wasn't bad enough to stop. Another 30kms of 100km/ph and came into a small town, back to 60kms/ph. The revs wouldn't go back down under 3000rpm. So I turned around and came home. On the way home I sat on the speed limit,100kmsp/h and the bike seems fine. When I stopped at my gate, the bike was still running rough and back firing on down shifts. there seems to be a clutch basket rattle with the clutch out, pull the lever in and it goes away. The bike is hard to get going cleanly from the lights sometimes. Clutch squeals and bike bucks. I have got new rubbers fitted thanks to Wout. Ebc plates and springs.
Any thoughts and suggestions. I think I'll just take it back to the mechanic. |

Does it still feel like it's running on 3 cylinders? Maybe check the ignition module settings and electrical leads? |

Thanks Andrew, I appreciate your in put. But it defiantly feels like a carb problem. I will take it to the mechanic tomorrow. The bikini fairing that I got from you works fantastic. Thanks Mate! I can't believe the difference that it makes. Just have to find someone to paint it? |

No worries mate, I'm glad the fairing went to someone that I will be able to see how it looks fitted and painted in the future. When I bought it I couldn't find any photos of it fitted to one of our bikes so it was a risky purchase but I was confident it would be right. |

Got the bike back from the mechanic today. He said it had a very lose balance screw on number 3 carb. That was it. There was no vacuum at all coming from that carb.Seems to be going and running great. I am how ever going to try a new map setting with the Ignitec Ignition. |
