Been following this story on the R site, I can't believe the police can't spare one officer to assist in the bikes recovery
Do we have any bike enthisiasts in Edinburgh - Scotland...?
| Quote: |
Two Swiss members have had there bikes stolen and they are currently being used for 'joy riding' ...!!
Someone in Edingburgh (seen us on the IOM) has contacted me to say he know's where the bikes are and that he's notified the local Police. The police are apparently too busy to do anything - I've tried to call them too and have been on 'hold' now for over 20 minutes...
Pil's been in touch with the bikes owners and he is planning to go and recover the bikes today - I don't believe there will be any trouble but obviously the more folk who can go along then the more certain the outcome |

If I lived closer, me and a couple of my friends would volunteer help find them. I'd be beyond pissed if anyone were to take one of my bikes. Hell, I don't even like people touching them...except of course F'ers. |

That's the problem over here guys. If you have your car or bike stolen or even if your house is burgled and all your belongings are stolen, the police don't give a shit. They just issue you with a crime number for insurance purposes.
Generally, they don't even come out to see you.
My son got burgled twice in 3 weeks and within 2 days of reporting it, he had a letter on the door mat stating that the police would not be pursuing the crime due to lack of evidence.
However, if you was to catch a thief taking your stuff and knocked two shades of crap out of him, you would be arrested, sent for trial and probably imprisoned for assault. I kid you not...
In this ridiculous country of ours, the criminal has more rights than the victim thanks to Cherrie Blair and her Human Rights Barrister brigade..... |

How does one justfy the logic behind giving a criminal any rights once he has broken into your house? We've had plenty of lawsuits over here go in favor of the criminal as well. I think the judges that rule in their favor need to be fired or retired. It's total nonsense. Human rights for a criminal? They waive their rights as soon as they cross over your threshold. |

Would be happy to send over a certain, highly-vocal and opinionated member of this forum to talk the perps to death. |

I have young children at my house and if a criminal was to violate the sanctity of our home I am prepared to defend my family at all costs. I will be the one who decides what an imminent threat to their safety and I will act on it. I'd rather be in jail with a smile than have anything happen to my kids...now the wife...I live in a wooded area that in my opinion is pro-gun. If you decide to break into another’s home in my area you should be prepared to pay the price. I guess I'm getting off topic a bit. Sucks that nothing can be dome about the bikes. |

I live on the other side of the river to Edinburgh, about 50 miles by road.
There is a group of bikers on it. They know the general area of where the bikes are.
There should be a good result this evening. |

Well at least one of the bikes was still being ridden around in an Edinburgh suburb 7 hours ago.
No further news I'm sorry to report.
Tomorrow morning I'll be heading out to Germany (work) and won't be back home until Thursday, provided things go near enough to plan. So won't be able to keep you abreast of any developments, if there are any. |

Good news is that one bike has been recovered - condition not known.
Our Swiss colleagues have not really kept us in the picture but as far as I can tell, 4 bikes were taken from outside a hotel where they were eating/staying.
Two bikes were hot wired and ridden away but the thieves either gave up or couldn't hot wire the other two so dumped tem in a hedge where they were later found.
I also believe that the police have two males in custody in relation to the theft.
Just shows that we shouldn't take bike security fro granted any longer I guess. In the IOM I've seen bikes parked and the keys left in without anything happening - big cities = big security risks I reckon. Let's hope the last one turns up..
Be vigilant.. Glenn

From a local biker FB page, posted 9th September.
| Quote: |
| One of the bikes has been recovered by the police and 2 guys arrested and charged with 8 different counts of theft and driving offences. |
Only one bike recovered so far, unfortunately. No news at all since |
