Honda's top line Sport bike (cbr1000rr) still has no electronic rider aids......Even smaller manufacturers like MV Augusta and Aprilia have multilevel traction control, and ABS on their top line bikes.. If that isn't fostering mediocrity in the name of containing costs, I don't know what is.

Honda should have the best electronic aids out there that competes with what BMW makes..

If that isn't ceding the top end of the market in favor of hitting a price point, I don't what is.

Honda has worked to put low cost ABS on low end cheapo bikes like the new 250 and 500, and that again appeals to selling bikes to the bottom price point of the market. ABS is a good thing on bikes and big advances are around the corner on top end sport bikes.

That new age Katana looks great.....But we should remember..The original Katana was generally thought of as ugly for years after it came out..Although I'll concede that it seemed to look better as time progressed.

That's just my take..It certainly was no hot seller in the day, and nobody else made anything that looked like it for a reason.

Stumbled in to my local Honda shop today, and found one of these on display. If I had the cash, I'd consider an addition to the garage...

Electronic aids on motorcycles are for old cogers who go along just to get along Wink

I saw the new 2014 CB1100 in black with the blacked out motor. That is one pretty bike in person. It may not have all the performance goodies or specs like most modern bikes but it is pretty. And still fast enough to get you killed.

Electronic rider aids will define high performance motorcycles from now on.......When a manufacturer doesn't have them, they are left behind in the high performance bike market.

At the Keith Code California super bike schools, the accident rate dropped 55% when they switched from Ninja 1000's to BMW s1000R's with multilevel traction control and ABS...Faster bike, more power, less accidents.....that's certainly significant

Sounds like someone has no clue what they are talking about, and just seeks to TR0LL my every post.....

I just scheduled a test ride tomorrow on the BMW HP4 and I have to say that the future is here and its full of electronics. The BMW is the first with a Dynamic Damping Control that adjusts up to 100 times a second. 14 point DTC system, Race ABS, shift assist, launch control...the list goes on. This bike is so advanced and fast that the CBR1000RR, Yamaha R1, and the GSXR1000R are not even included in comparison reports. The ZX10R is the the closest Japanese bike they could compare it to and its not even in the same league. This motorcycle has turned the superbike world upside down and has caused the legendary Ducati Panigale to loose its grip on the number one spot. Granted this is the top of the heap, but it IS the new mark and the standard that all motorcycle manufacturers will strive to copy. Perhaps we won't be purchasing a $25K motorcycle anytime soon but we would be shortsighted to think that some of these advantages won't find themselves into our everyday bikes.

That is an awesome bike......The only thing that stopped me from buying one was the realization that the same tech will be available cheaper in the near future with led headlights and other stuff the HP4 doesn't have.....

When you wack the throttle on that bike and the warp drive engages, you will probably find yourself thinking about buying one frequently.

Look at the new s1000r. It will be a nice standard bike setup with a slightly detuned version of the same engine with the electronic suspension and electronic aids for about 16K..The HP4 is the grizzly bear of the group though...

Amazing machines for sure. As a BMW owner (06 K1200S) I know what hyperbike performance is like, and yes it does put a huge smile on ones face...
I can only imagine what 8+ years of engineering has to offer..holy! Shocked

Somehow I feel that Honda is looking, more at trying to capture a larger portion of the Cruiser/Power cruiser market, than the racing high performance market. Crying or Very sad

I think they have been like that since the days of the Maxim and that big V65 contraption they made.

Nah, the CBR1000RR has been a pretty decent race bike for many years.
But now, with the addition of the BMW HP4, Honda is no where near the top of the line in the race market.
Most of the top bikes are now loaded with electronics, that make it easier for the rider over a huge range of differing road conditions.
I hope they catch up quick.

Keep driving your car without ABS and I wave at you when you ran into something. Keep riding your bike without traction control and I pull away from you when rolling on the throttle out of a turn...paddle shifters have been commonplace in Formula 1 for years. And once you had a car that had it, you miss it.
Yeah, even ESA is "not necessary", but a great thing to have when you ride a bike under different load conditions and in different environments.

Taking over control and giving you an edge that you cannot achieve with skill are two different things.

It is totaly awesome to be able to switch up the suspension to and from 2 up riding without having to pull out the tools.
On the fly changes, for road and riding conditions are pretty sweet too.
I used to poo poo it too, until I had it.
Now I wouldnt have it any other way..Very Happy
Though I have only noticed the ABS working once, it was surprising at how quickly it stopped the machine.
Servo assisted brakes (on mine) are pretty amazing too, though the industry has moved away from them all together.

Honda is never "up to date". They copy and build a bike that is competitive then stop. They update but not really front line. At some point when they can no longer sell the bike they build a new one.

As indicatve why is the 1400cc super 4 not come here. It has been in production for about 20 years. The "new" 1100 is a relative,as shown by the shape of the side covers.

I bought 2 CBR1000RR for $8000 ea and are now $14000 ea. Now I bought them because they were cheap. Even as such $20,000 is not in the same ballpark.

Honda builds to "mass market" not as a specialty race bike.

Nice job! Really cool bike. I think that is what Honda had in mind with this bike. It was a retro for the original CB750Four (SOHC) not so much the CB1100F.
