Been slowly redoing my 1100 for years now. Spring 2013, it looks like it'll be ready for the road and I finally learned how to post pictures easily. Didn't take as many as I should have but I'll start posting from the beginning and add a few each day till I'm current then will take and post as I finish up.
Bought the bike in November 2005 on ebay for $675 in Boston with 19,000 miles. Rented a van and 12-13 hours later I had it home in Eastern PA. A little brake work and I rode it for a summer but it was tiered and hurting. So the winter of 2006 started a total rebuild/ going over to make it run strong, look good and become red, as I had a red one back in the mid 80's.
I have changed my mind many times on what I want based on all the awesome work I have seen by many of you over the years here and plenty of time to change my mind. One example was rear shocks. First it was the awesome parts and details to rebuild the stock ones provided by a member here, then it was Vipex and finally a group Ohlins buy. Only thing I have held to is the internal engine staying stock. This is the only picture I took of the teardown sorry to say. Will post more tomorrow. Stay tuned.

More photo's. Was happy to say the motor was all within tolerances, so I didn't have to break the bank to bad going through it to get it back strong and fresh.
Rear end got new wheel bearings , complete brake rebuilds, ss lines, VF brake torque arm and the Ohlins. Was going to go with the GS Suzuki rear arm but it just didn't have the box look so it was a paint job for the stocker.
Front end received the break rebuilds, ss lines and wheel bearings as well as Race Tech internals, mods and springs.

Engine's in. New Lockhart turn signals, new oil cooler hose lines and member made fittings and on goes the V&H pipe. Bracket they supplied doesn't line up well at the canister mount so I'm making my own.

Canister bracket made as the one it came with did not line up.

Keep the custom chain guard, the stock one looks like it belongs on a Massey Ferguson tractor.. Yours looks 1000% better than the stock clunker.

Gotta disagree. The stock one looks better. Guess that's why they say it's your bike, what do you like?

BTW, the build is coming along very nicely, going to be gorgeous. Please post details of your Oil Pressure guage (if that's what it is, on the right side of the motor).

I like the idea on the chain guard. Although its not going to stop much crap from being flung up on ya. Matching the arc on the back of it to the sprocket a little better would dress it up a lot.

Yellow for the color? These were black and I powdered them yellow. But I may do when again in white. I'll decide when all the bodywork is back on.
Thanks for the chain guard thoughts. I prefer to not run one for the look but do agree stock is Massey Ferguson for sure.

Ah...Ohlins' does the springs in yellow as well......thought yours came that way....looking for some for my Yellow CBX.

Try painting your chain guard black, it might give you the look you're after. Its the center cross brace that looks a little excessive. Maybe black out just the braces and leave the top silver.

Love the MXer's all over the place! Was that a Greeves on the lift next to your bike? Is the yellow plated bike a Husky? I cant see enough of either. Loved that era.

Pete,

I think you're onto something with the custom chain guard. I agree that putting a radius at the back end to match the sprocket would be cool too. What material did you fab that out of... Steel or aluminum? Almost appears to have a brushed look to it.

The Lockhart turn signals... a little more detail, please... are those for the 1100F or a different bike? Do you have a model number or something so that I could check them out? They might be a nice alternative to the original turn signal bodies if I ever had to replace them.

Its been a year since my last post but I hope to be done by the time the weather turns nice this year. Thanks for all your comments! I never went back and saw some of the questions asked.
The turn signals were just ones that caught my eye on Lockharts website, sort of a stock lock. Just smaller. Bolted right up and plugged right in. The Oil pressure guage on the right is liquid filled from Mcmaster carr, got the info from another post here. Also bought SS plumbing fittings from mc master as well and tee'd at the sending unit for the warning light. The bracket to hold it as well as the chain guard are just made from aluminum stock from the hardware store then polished with a mothers aluminum polish.
Larryg, it is a Husky. 1980 390CR, other bike on the bench is a Can-am mx-3. The old MXers are my othere passion.

Just bought the petcock gas tank rebuild kit another member posted up for sale. After 5 years sitting empty, gas came out from everywhere. Also getting installing a new seat cover and I should be close.

Pit replica on ebay Dennis. Yes it's real nice but see my thread on this from last week here in general chit chat. A little assurance to make sure it lasts. Dead on the stock, many members here have it.

Look's NICE!

I have had 3 '80 CR390 Husky's. I like them a lot. Also had one Can-Am MX-6. It was a nice evo bike.

Keep it up it's almost done.

Took her out for 5 minutes. Bike went forward, brakes stopped it and nothing fell off. Back home all looked good. Electric system is charging. So back out for 10 minutes. Motor seams good and strong, love the FCR's. Ohlins in the rear and race tech internals up front make for a way better feel. Back home and my oil pressure sensor pipe thread tee is weeping oil for the second time and about 7 or 8 odds and ends to tweak. But overall I'm very excited. Once I iron out the bugs, I'll replace the cheap emgo filters with K&N's and some adapters. Then add a Dyna ignition, new plug wires, pro com ignitors and a steering stabilizer. I changed my mind on many ways to go over the years it took to do this, so I'll be posting some items up for sale I never went with. I owe a great amount of thanks to so many here!!!
