Have to put down our old Chow and having a hard time getting myself to do it.
She's been the best dog that I have ever had. VERY Loyal and nice dog.
I never trusted Chow's until I met my wife and she had Jade. Never got mean with other dogs or people but the best possum/raccoon killer I ever saw.
Other then that she is a sweet dog.
She's my Teddy Bear.
Just needed to vent. Its a sad day so I think I'll go to the shop and get lost building something.
Keep it in a wheelie, Jim |

i appreciate the vent and can relate as well. i chose to put down my dog zeena about three years ago. for me it was a choice cause she wasn't terminal or anything. it was a quality of life thing. she couldn't really stand on the hardwood or tile floors. stairs were scary and it seemed like a fall and subsequent breaking of bones were inevitable. the thought of rushing to the vet like that wasn't pleasant. she got me through a very dark time in my life where if i didn't have her to care for i wouldnt have made it myself. she was 13 and i had her since she was a pup. i loved that dog. it was really rough for a while after of coarse. i think i cried everyday for a month and sometimes still do. be strong for your dog. my thoughts go out to you jim. |

Thank you!!
You just described how it is with Jade right now. She falls on the tile and since she sleeps in our room (up stairs) when she goes down its scary to watch. She hasn't wanted to eat for two day. Even a steak so I know what has to happen.
She road with me everyday for the last two yrs doing HVAC work to each service call. She was great to have in the cab while sitting in hr long traffic jams.
She would stick up for her younger brother at the dog part when she thought that he was in over his head. Great dog all around. She's the longer nosed Chow so she had no health issues for 14yrs. Very low maintenance dog IMO except for brushing.
Anyway Thanks again for your post!
Peace, Jim |

Losing pets is every bit as difficult as losing a loved family member. There's nothing that compares like the unconditional love that a pet gives, and they ask for very little in return besides the return of your love, food, and shelter. It's too bad we aren't all that easy to please, is it? It would make the world a much better place to live.
I know exactly how you feel having gone through it many times over the years with beloved pets. I like to think that they get rewarded with a life of eternity in paradise after bringing so much joy to their loved ones.
Sorry to hear about what you're going through Jim. Rest easy - you'll be doing the right thing. |

I know how you feel and I sympathize big time.
We have a 15 year old setter that is in tough shape. Has a hard time standing on our hardwood floor and tile kitchen. Doesn't get around too much. He is fatefully attached to me and has anxiety issues if he isn't in is kennel when I am gone. Howls like a baby. I never believed it until my son recorded it once when I was gone.
He is famous, was once featured in an article in Sporting Classics. I'll never have another dog like him.
His days are numbered due to his health. Once he goes I will have him cremated and keep his ashes with me. I hate the thought of him wandering his afterlife searching for me. |

My heart goes out to you Jim. They say a dog is a man's best friend. I's true in a lot of ways. There's little I can say to ease the pain except to say the love you had for each other will never cease to be a joy to you. Best wishes to you and your family. m |

Jim, all the things that the guys have said is 100% true. They are loved family members, each one changes your life in his or her own way. If life were fair, they'd last as long as we do, and then we'd never have to let them go. Life isn't fair, in this regard. Take care, and know that you can vent here whenever you need to.

Very saddened to hear his JJ,, Our animals are more like children than pets in our loving home. We've experienced the sudden loss of loved ones hit on the road and the ones we must make the loving decision you're facing
Years after their passing, It still hurts. Our thoughts, prayers and blessing are with you my friend |

All of the above Jim. Your sorrow brings tears to my eyes. Having a beloved pet put down is the hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life. I grieve with you... |

My heart breaks for you, brother. Dogs are family. I recently had to drop 4k saving my dog. I did it even though I really didn't have it to spend. I sold my toy-hauler to save him. Can't imagine what you're going through. Friends of mine have an Italian Mastiff that Ive been incredibly attached to also. He's always been a big ole buddy to/for me. The recently found he has cancer and is terminal and they have to put him down. Granted, he's and old man for his breed at 12, but that doesn't make it any easier for them.
They say getting a new pooch quickly saves some heart ache, not as a replacement, but as a distraction and so you can start a new relationship because that's exactly what it is. |

Thank you all!!
We waited until today and at 2 I take her in.
She loves the snow and it snowed today. She felt good enough to get up and go for one slow last walk.
We have two other dogs that are great also but Jade always smiled at you the first time she would see you. Lots to think and remember about her. They are good memories.
She's a beautiful dog and such a sweet heart.
Sorry I'm not much use in the shop today. Got lots of parts to work on but just to sick to my stomach to do shit.
Peace, Jim |

Hang in there Jim. It is so hard. Your gonna be messed up for a good month, but its the right thing to do. So many dogs dont get to have a great life. Your dog did, and that is what ya have to remember. |
