hmmm. does this mean it's running, but the bike is not perfect, or the bike has some running issues? If the later, it could get expensive real quick.

If the former, jump on it Wink

I'm spending more time on the R these days than the 900 and 1100 combined Very Happy

cheers

Non original ignition switch - ask why.

I asked if I could ride it 200 miles home and was told no problem...the problem was cosmetic stuff.

Didn't notice the ignition switch. I also need to ask about the rear cowl / solo seat attachment.

I bet that thing sounds great with the Two Bros exhaust. My favorite was always the Micron system....not raspy, just a great growl. The Two Bros system was the closest to the Micron sound. I had a full Two Bros system on my Hawk GT and it sounded awesome. Very nice bike, should be a lot of fun if you get it.

I think damage on the tank is rust through.
The little panel around the tail light will set you back anything from $80 to $150 if you can find one.

Keys are different for ignition and gas but both are Honda keys.

He's going to get better shots of the damage and issues...also going to shoot a vid of it running. will post up later.

Yeah, that definitely looks like rust through on the tank. Not awful, but just a real pain.

Not clue on value for these things, so I'll back out of the discussion here....it does look cool as hell, though.

He'll let me have it for 1700...i think I'm going to jump on this...parts alone are worth that.

224 miles away is the only bad thing.

The part numbers are different, Dave, but they still might be interchangeable. The gas cap looks to be the same. I have a friend who specializes in VF parts and will find out if he has a full lockset. His prices are reasonable. I also know a guy who's quite familiar with these parts and how to refinish them properly. Smile

Worst case, you could probably bring the locks to a good locksmith and get them to match each other.

If it were me, I would hold out for one that is about $3K (IMO that is a $1200 bike at max)..... there are lots of them in very good and ready to ride condition for $3K, and it will cost you way more than that to bring that one up to the same condition. From the pics, there is a lot of sun fading on parts, and not sure if it's been down on the right hand side (frame scraps, fiberglass repair, non-standard brake lever, been painted, etc)? Make sure the frame isn't tweaked ..... these things get expensive to restore / repair real quick. Also make sure it has the top end oil mod.

What are the differences and how do they get the extra HP from the VF1000R vs the standard VF1000?

The gas cap is the same as the f.
I think the R's made a few more HP with, different carbs, less restrictive exhaust, better cams and gear driven cams.

This one is still available 10 minutes from me - I looked at it last month and it's in decent shape. http://worcester.craigslist.org/mcy/4027842784.html. He would probably come down a little in price and the bike is ready to ride as is. You could pick away at the details over time.

Larry - one big difference between the F and the R is that the R has gear driven cams. My F has cam chains. The front end on the R has "fast removal" fork legs instead of the traditional 2 bolt clamps that we're all familiar with. Petrat can probably fill you in on some of the other differences, but there are also a lot of similarities. I didn't know that the top end oiler kit was recommended for the R - I thought they had the issue fixed by then.

Dave - you should join the www.vfrdiscussion.com forum and ask around. There's a lot of knowledge there. BTW - my friend said that he already sold the R lockset that he had.

I think you guys need to be snapping these up at the money your talking about $1200 - $3000. That's peanuts compared to the prices in the UK & Europe. VF1000R's are fetching over £5k now. Basket cases and I mean in a basket, fetch £1k upwards.

Make hay while the sunshines fellas Smile

Getting closer, but why pictures of the bike with forks off and other front end parts .... are they spares from what was replaced from being a front end damage?

That's weird. It still works for me. http://worcester.craigslist.org/mcy/4027842784.html

I can contact the seller and get his phone number if anyone wants it. I might still have it somewhere in an email.
