Hi folks,
Hope all are well who (and those who don't) remember me (and Matt @ PSB). I am still running my CB750f. She's about to turn over to 70,000 miles WOW.
Folks keep telling me I need to get another bike, something lighter and newer, and maybe I'm thinking about that more these days, but all I know is I still love her (Clara B) and I thank my friends here for weighing in when needed.
I'm needing help again. She's had the "boots" replaced and now my mechanic/friend needs some specifications for the jets. She's running too lean and keeps stalling on me and he needs some stats to go back in 'cuz what's in the manual isn't working so well.
The question: What are people running for jets for Vance & Hines exhaust Supersport. There may be a 4 & 1 in there. 4 & 1 Vance & Hines Exhaust (does that make sense ?). Something about the lean jet and the main jet and fuel mixture setting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks !!
Glenda from Montana (where the skies are a hazy blue today because we have new fires going). |

I remember..
Pretty sure, if you are still running the stock carbs, no changes are required to the jets for just a pipe change.
Maybe just turn the pilot jet out 1/4 to 1/2 a turn.
That would put it at 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 turns out from gentlty seated.
I am glad to hear you are doing well.
Cheers

I remember also . Are you running a stock paper filter or a K&N cleanable ? Some people have trouble with the K&N and others not . |

Hi Glenda, glad to hear from you and that everything is okay.
Stock jetting for a 750 is primary #68 and secondary #100. As a suggestion, replace the #68 with a #72 or #75. This will eliminate a stumble from 2K-3K RPM. I am assuming that you have the stock carbs and airbox on. The jetting won't make a difference with a K&N replacement or stock paper filter.
Start the fuel mixture screw out 2 1/2 turns. Because Montana is higher than sea level (I don't know much higher) you might have to adjust the fuel mixture by turning the screw clockwise. Do each screw (on all carbs) 1/4 turn. Adjust for idle. |

Missoula: 3200 ft above sea level.
Good to hear from you, Glenda! Wish you were closer, so we could be more helpful, but Brian has you on the right track. Keep us posted on your progress, and post a couple of pics of Clara, when you get a moment! |

Okay, mid September isn't exactly returning soon. The summer has just flown by. We had an active fire season. That kept me busy for a while, but I'm back. I get these numbers on the jetting to my friend/mechanic, he'll tackle my bike, as I've explained, now that the riding season allows.
SOOO Now I've got a new question. Can you all point me in the direction of some wiring for the clutch gear. I may need more specific information, but there's something going on when I downshift and my friend said something about not having a wiring diagram. I've got the owners' manual for the bike. I'll get more info this week.
And, another something that's been niggling at me this summer -- have I run out of room, so to speak, to ride this bike ? This friend and others are pointing out that I don't ride the bike as it's intended to be ridden (for speed) and that she's a temperamental thoroughbred that needs some special care, especially as she's just turned 70,000 (a new motor for the last 8 or so -- should figure that out). So, anyway, I wonder again, maybe it's time (it's an argument they've been making for years) to get a newer/lighter bike more suited to my riding style. And, frankly, life without a mate who loved these bikes and knew a lot about making them run is tough. But I also love the bike and can't really afford a new one (I don't have a stable HA).
Thoughts welcome, please. & Thanks, guys. It really means a lot to me that you all are always here for me.
Here's hoping you all get a ride in soon.

Thank you bunches !! You guys are awesome. I spoke to my mechanic friend today and he was referencing the cable going to the handlebars. At one point, he thought the cable wasn't long enough for the modified handlebars on this bike. He didn't realize that he'd solved the problem there, as far as I could tell, so I think I still need more info to communicate effectively here, but I will pass on these leads and the diagram. SO AGAIN. YOU ROCK !!!
Hopefully, am back soon with another picture of Clara !
Best of riding weekends to you all.
