Hello All:

Some of you may have met Dave from Grosse Pointe, MI during your rides in the area. I cannot remember his username that he has on this site and the search tab is of no help.

Anyway, Dave went down on his 1100F near Bishop, NC on Sunday, June 23rd and has been in the hospital ever since. He has a shattered left knee cap. broken left hip socket, shoulder injury and facial injuries (wearing a helmet). My brother spoke with him today and he expects to be in the hospital another two weeks, with long-term care and rehab after that. His daughter is in NC now to coordinate things. Dave thinks he is looking at a year long recovery period.

I will post more as we get details.

Sorry to hear that Roger, hopefully Dave gets well enough to get back home soon for a full recovery. Sounds like he went down pretty hard.

Take Care,
Chris

I spoke with Dave's wife a little while ago and learned more about the incident.

Dave and a neighbor were riding together in N.C. though the hills and mountains, Dave out front by about 1/2 mile.
While Dave was going around a tight curve to the left (out of sight from his neighbor) an oncoming car crossed the center line and struck Dave. Other folks saw the crash, the neighbor came up on the scene moments later.

Even though Dave and his wife are nearing the end of a bitter divorce, the family has put that all aside to do what's best for Dave.
I've offered my assistance in any way they need and I may recruit some of you local guys too if necessary.

If there is a moral here it's to ride alert, wear good gear, watch out for the other guy.

More to follow when I have news.

Wish him the best from this side of the world, sounds like a long hard road to recovery with many sleepless nights. And get off the medication as soon as possible, that stuff is evil

Wow, sorry to hear about this and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I met Dave a few years back when I delivered Matt's blue 1100 to him. A real nice guy with a strong passion for the F's.

My heart and prayers go out to Dave and his family. It is encouraging to see families set aside differences and come together when a priority like this confronts them.

I plan on sending a card. Sometimes a mental boost can help with the physical healing and reaching out to a fellow F'er could add some positive effects on Dave's recovery.

Such a shame we share the roads with all kinds of drivers. Stay vigilant folks!!!!!

Roger,

I know I am a long way off but I am blessed with good health, family and lots of spare parts for CBF's. I will offer my assistance in any way Dave or his family may need so recruit away directly to me as well.

Dave

I received this from Dave the other day, he's now at:

Okemos Health and Rehabilitation
5211 Marsh Rd • Okemos, MI 48864
(517) 319-1400

Plenty of cycle parking.

I am in room 101

Broken left shin – shattered in multiple locations. Later became severely infected -- 3 operations to flush out (Sparrow, Lansing) along with original operation to bolt, pan, pin up.

Shattered left pelvis, socket, etc, worse the doctor had ever encountered (Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, NC). Along with above operation, 10 hours to staple.

Numerous but minor broken ribs, 6 or so.

Several facial fractures – minor – thank God I had a helmet on.

Both shoulders dislocated. They are now somewhat frozen and difficult to operate. Both shoulders fractured with torn rotator cuffs.

Lower right side / leg OK.

This happened June 23rd. I just started wearing cloths to some degree – grande size to fit over devices. Shorts, button down shirts. Better than weeks in the butt showing gown.

I suppose I am missing scratch or bump here and there.

I will send more details later.

If he's looking ahead to fixing the bike, then he's optimisitic, which is a really good sign. Man, he's lucky that he wasn't killed. Someone was looking over him that day. Glad to hear he's slowly recovering and I'm sure that all the prayers are helping.
