Its time to start screaming as loud as you can if you enjoy motorcycle racing. I know I sure as hell am going to. Im going to find an email address and fire off an email every damn day until 2013 and further until somebody pays attention.

Discovery's Velocity channel still has the TT (which is the very best 2 wheel racing there is in my opinion). But my guess is that if the article is right in its prediction that FOX will covert the SPEED channel into a full-time sports network for MLB and the likes...someone will move to fill in the void. Immediately the rights to all those Motorsports programming that was on SPEED will plummet in value and what was previously unprofitable for some will once again become profitable. It is the beauty of capitalism and economics...if there is demand then somebody will figure out a way to supply it.

I have to say though...I think that there is an alternative future for motorsports on the internet. In truth this is a sport destined for the internet (at least now given televisions limited capacity). I say this because there are so many participants and so much going on that it is difficult to follow (or enjoy) from the the limited angles available on TV.

What I would envision is....an internet site that allows users (viewers) to create customized dash boards for viewing. Consider watching a NASCAR race (or the motogp) and being able to watch a central picture to see the birds-eye or static angle video of a particular turn or track...

...then perhaps add a graphic of the track with each racer marked as a colored dot (or using their sponsors icon) and a key that provides statistics to viewers (obviously lap times but I want to see fuel readings, tire ware, pit stops taken, which wheels are new, how much distance has been covered since last pit... etc.)

...Finally, an option to select and customize additional screens (picture in picture) to follow on board cameras, and even an option of switch from front to rear facing cameras.

While that may be information overload for you...we have been training upcoming generations to be super consumers of information (ADD is just a side effect).

NBC just announced that it will be the sole provider of Formula One in 2013 ..... It has begun

...wonder what that means. I find it hard to believe that NBC will dedicate the airtime to cover a full season of Formula 1. My guess is that they bought the rights to the US races....and since nobody else is broadcasting the foreign races...you get "exclusive rights"

AMA Supercross and MX were usually on speed but last year they traded off quite a few dates with NBCSports. CBSsports also did some of the MX nationals this summer. For me it was better because I couldnt get Speed in HD. I have a feeling the racing stuff wont disappear because well have more sports only channels and MLB and the like are WAY more expensive to get the rights to. Then again if speed goes away who will grab all the NASCAR shows? Those tend to steal all the air time.

As Speedvision was great. Then it became the Nascar channel and not worth a crap. That is unless you like watching restricted dinosaurs crashing into each other.
