She said, "Take the crappy fairing off your bike. It makes it look like sh*t."

"Oh yeah and get your take painted. It looks like crap too."

I think I am experiencing a little "buy in".

Maybe this summer she'll get on the back.

when my wife and I go for rides, she usually asks to take the 750F instead of the Harley...
AND she asks when I'm going to finish the 1100!! Now if I could just leave a "wish list of parts" laying around close to birthday time... Cool

Seriously though...I would not ever be without my fairing...I wouldn't mind having a non fairing version too but I would never be without the one I have. Just my very opinionated opinion... Rolling Eyes

Didn't mean to start a fight.

Lets face it, my faring is a tired old dog. Scraped up, missing the lowers, cracked mounting holes, and a noisey like a buzzer factory.

It needs work ($$$$$) to not look crappy. Id rather buy some mirrors and a head light bucket and be done with it.

My old man used to love his 750F with that ugly windjammer fairing, when I got the bike from him, it was the first thing to go...
All these years, and bikes later, I own a Harley with a fairing, a stock looking 1100F (that ISN'T a fairing on those) and just acquired a 750F with the Hondaline fairing. NOW I'm looking to equip the 1100 WITH a fairing, as long as it looks good, I'm sold on em'!!

If it says "Windjammer" on it, it isn't a fairing...it is a barn door. Laughing

Flapjack's is a Hondaline sport fairing. It probably needs a good half a day of debugging. They call that tough love. Laughing

Alas, my 11F fairing has seen better days, but I'd still rather have a scraped one with the stock Blue/White/Red paint than some aftermarket job. I have 3 old Windjammers but no brackets to mount them to the F. They may be ugly by modern standards but I'm 47 and been ridin' for 33 years and you should see what they had before that! Yuk! If anyone knows where to get original body work, they ain't talkin' and if they are they are very proud!$$$$ I bought my 1100F brand new in San Jose,CA as a lad of 25 and have had it longer than any of my 4 kids (7-19yrs) which I remind them of occasionally. I'm waiting for Honda to make an XX based Naked/Retro version that looks like my '83 F. I'd buy one in a heartbeat and think they'd sell all they could make!

I'm shooting for just putting heli-bars on my 1100XX when I can afford them. She will then be absolutely Perfect! Mr. Green

P.S. I feel a Carnak the Magnificent moment coming on... Shocked

I'd sell the fairing in an instant for hard cash.

I'd have to keep the clock and votlmeter though, even if I had to bolt them to my helmet.

Im sitting on a spare set of black lowers, in fair shape. One sides upper mount is cracked, but nothing a lil JB weld cant fix. Have a frame, slightly tweeked, that can be easily straightend once on the bike, and a black fairing with slight right side scrapes from my 50mph, crash & burn, summersault last year....oh yeah, a windshield and front headlight lens. too. Shocked

For sale, CHEAP.....email me if interested, and Ill send pix...

It worked GREAT, until I crashed and burned, but I believe it saved my tank from getting tinkeltized.... Cool

I have only ridden this one bike. Fairing on. Is riding without a fairing that much more windy?

Would I regret taking it off?

Sorry, but the fairing is just not sexy. Can anyone make a case that they have ever seen a fairing that was truly sexy.

These bikes are sexy without the fairing.

VERY SEXY, IMHO and quiet. And YES it is MUCH more windy and noisy w/o fairing....especially if I have my CD player and want to listen to some music while I ride

Course I have a 2cd bike w/o fairing so, I can understand wanting to try it w/o......I can log serious miles with that fairing, as otherwise Id tire out in about 400 miles....

But with the front fork brace, Progressive springs and 110/90 front tire, she handles it just fine. Just ask Jons how she ran going over North Cascades last year......

OK, OK I've updated the profile with Location, Location, Location!
I was busy duct taping the fairing back together!
I need new front T.S. stems too, the old girl is starting to look her age but not nearly as bad as the wife (I never said that!) and me too I suppose.
My dad and lil' brother have bikes with big fairings and take delight in running me through the rain and cold on long trips to far away places so they can watch me shiver and squirm! But all it takes is for some hot, young, babe to roll down her window at the light and say "nice bike" to make them turn a little green!

Yeah, fairing bikes and non-fairing bikes are just two different worlds. If you're gonna put in a lot of miles and you appreciate wind-protection, the fairing really makes the ride a lot more comfy. But if you're into the look of the bike: fairings = Puke

I just hate most 'effecient' fairings...except the Honda-line fairings and a very few others (and I'm not a died-in-HRC-guy...I'm just telling it like it is).
Motorcycles are dead sexy to most of us m/c-ists, and that leaves a lot of room for perspective. You might like fairings, but it just isn't for me...and I don't mind the wind-blast (I don't do much high-way tho), but I love the look of no-fairing or small CB11F/ZRX fairings...deeeeead sexy.
Alas, to each his own; but they do make a comfort difference.

I'm pretty sure that the CB1300 (although drop-dead good-lookin') has a totally different engine format than the BlackBird (XX). Europeans did get a BlackBird that didn't have a fairing...called it an XX-11 or X-11 or 11XX or something like that. All I have to say about that bike is that if I had a dog that was that ugly I'd shave it's butt and train it to walk backwards! What a 'Streetfighter' in the original (and wost) sense of the word; that bike looked like a salvage-yard special. Now if they'd put the 'Bird motor in that CB13...hmmmmm, yummy. Wink

Might I suggest the windshield rubber striping????

Keeps the Windshield from vibrating.

Go to David Silver Spares online and ask them for the 2 clips and windshield rubber striping.......

Its a rubber strip that goes the length of the upper shield and attaches via 2 clips on either side.....

I have a parts fische that shows the whole fairing assy if needed. Just email me. I use the paint program to highlight said parts needed then email them to David Silver to make SURE we are on the same page. They still have the rubber screw caps and striping, for I just ordered some last month.....

I need to get more recent pics up...since those were taken, I've added:

ATK fork brace (beefy one)
Pirelli Sport Demons
Newly built and newly painted 1100 motor
Replaced a few rusty/cruddy fasteners

In regard to the windshield top strip...I think I'm going to order a new windshield from DavidSilver as soon as I can afford it. I've not been a real fan of the way they look (sort of a distraction having a "line" in my field of view) but it seems/looks like most of the new shields already have them installed. The part numbers wouldn't hurt if you have them handy... Mr. Green

I've still got to re-do the top end of the new motor using an 1123 kit...I was impatient and the weather was really nice during the spring so I went ahead and re-used the set of original 1062cc stock pistons that I had. Number 3 piston had some chafing and scuff marks on the skirt but I thought "what the hell, she'll be alright".

WRONG Exclamation

Now I have a very slight tick/tap at idle that I have isolated with a stethoscope to being piston slap at TDC. She quiets down right after you come off idle and runs like a raped ape...but that noise SUCKS. Rolling Eyes

Not to fear though...I have her great, great grandbaby to play with now while she is being nursed back to full health. Mr. Green

Instead of bars and rearsets I just got the XX... roflmao

As a result of Quicks picture and further review of my bike. I think I'll keep the fairing, and maybe get some lowers.

Why, because with the fairing she's bigger and blacker.

No two ways about it though, the whole thing needs a good paint job.

The decals and striping are shot.

In order to satisfy my crave for a stripped down one, I think I'll keep my eye out (way out) for a 750 to goof around with.

Flap, I know it's a late reply, but I just got back from the job in Alabama.
In one of our first PMs, many moons ago (7 or 8,anyhow) you asked me about wind effects, as I don't have a fairing. I've never been on a bike with a fairing, so I had no comparison, as you don't to a bike without. I think I said simply that it wasn't a problem. You just lean forward more at speed.
Get rid of it. The bike is NICE without it. Hell, you have a nicer bike than mine anyway, but I'm working on it.
I've gotta go try & catch Quik & find out where he got the side cover decals--mine is going black & blue. Before I do, though:
Flap, you're showing your age. So will I by this reference. You said the bike looks "sexy" without the fairing. So, how many of you F'ers remember the early-70s Capris being advertised as "The Sexy European", replete w/hot chick? And yes, I had a '74 2-liter Capri. TB

I've got to get pics up soon of my new baby too...it is absolutely amazing how similar the CB and the CBR look when they are side by side. 21 years younger but the family resemblance is uncanny. Very Happy

There is a somewhat noticable difference in perfomance and handling though....HEY...somebody stole my wobble... roflmao
