Hang in there dude ! I know where you are coming from ! My physical limitations seem to grow daily, while my mind is still in teenager mode.
I'm not ready to be 62 yet (fast approaching), but my body is trying to tell me otherwise ! being reclusive isn't that bad, as long as my Wife

If you are married or what ever you should hold tightly to what you have in the long run it makes all the difference in the world! Especially after you retire!
I lost my wife (of 27 years) in April 2000, I'm not wineing or of that such!
But the daily inter reaction really helps out in keeping your feet on the ground and progressing in life and looking forward.

I lost my wife too, but it was my choice (divorced). Unfortunately a good portion of my paycheck every week went along with her. I have a girlfriend, but I really do like being able to do what I want, within reason. It really is cheaper to keep her. |

I'm 51, working at the same job 34 years in January. I'm ready to go. Have good retirement system and benefits but the system won't let me go. They can start 2 employees for my salary and have more help. There are about 30 of us in the same boat.
26% penalty if I leave before 55.
At 55 I will have 38 years and the retirement system gives one month compensation for each year of service up to 36 months. Total will be 41 years and 80% of my highest yearly salary will be what my retirement check is.
I can wait out the last 3.5 years then see ya. I will be done. Each day is one day closer. |

No thanks,, I'm more into the harmony, harmless, peaceful existence at his stage of the game..
I'll let you young bucks take on the zombies.
I could make an exception in certain cases though

I would love to be able to retire now so that I could work full-time powder coating and rebuilding for you guys. Unfortunately, it wouldn't pay the bills. I'm only 51 and have been with the same company for 31 years now, so I don't plan to leave here until they make me. If I was let go, I'd get a week's pay for every year I've been here, plus my 5 weeks' vacation time. Therefore, I will never quit unless I win the lottery (I don't buy tickets so that ain't happening) or someone leaves me a lot of money in their will. (unlikely) Based on how the economy has been affecting my 401K, I expect to be working until I'm 70 or they give me the boot - whichever comes first. (probably the boot)
Having structure is good and seeing my friends here every day helps me keep my sanity. My schedule at work allows me to run or cycle at lunchtime - something that's quite valuable to me..I would miss my friends, but I would have no problem getting up at 6 every day to refinish parts or do projects on the house. I might not be as disciplined about exercising however...
Larry - weigh out the pros and cons and see what makes the most sense at this point in your life. |

I stopped work at Christmas, just didn't go back, not sure what to do, plenty of other peoples bikes in my shed, all needing work, but getting money out of people to pay for parts is hard enough let alone paying for labour so they just sit here. Silly thing is all of my bikes are all running so I don't have to fix any of mine, the others all belong to club members and the club motto is "Thrift befor honour" so it is up hill all the way. lol |

Start charging them for storage, that'll get things moving.
Congrats, Larry! Now you can concentrate on accumulating nice bikes, LOL. |

As long as I get to control my own destiny, I don't mind working. Every once in a while I think about retiring, but then they give me more money, which does not hurt. |

I actually don't mind going to work, it's just having to wait 9 hours to come home again I hate.
I'm just shy of 10 ten years in my present job that I hate, sitting in front of a computer all day is not for me anymore, so after I come back from some long service leave in October, I'll be looking at a change, hopefully in the mining sector here in Australia.
I reckon maybe 5-7 years in that might see me out and still leave me young enough to enjoy the things I like most, like riding and working on my bikes, 4 wheeling, and sitting out on the water in my boat. |

Just do it while you can... |
