Quote:
RAVENA, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 25-year-old upstate New York man has been arrested after troopers clocked him driving his motorcycle at 170 mph on the Thruway.

State police say a trooper first observed the motorcyclist going 166 mph Wednesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 87 just south of Albany. The trooper pursued the biker and was able to get the Suzuki motorcycle's license plate number and a description of the rider when he slowed down in traffic.

But the man sped off again, and other troopers clocked him going as fast as 170 mph. Troopers eventually stopped him in New Paltz.

Police charged Nikkolaus McCarthy of Charlton with fleeing police, reckless driving, speeding and operating a motorcycle without a license.

He was being held in jail on $20,000 bail. It couldn't immediately be determined if he had a lawyer.

From Albany to New Paltz - he was definitely flying! How bad do you really need to be some place to do this??

They could read his license plate but couldn't tell if he had a lawyer with him? Wink

While I've done {admission of reckless driving deleted} mph (with both hands on the bars!) on part of that stretch of the Thruway, I don't think I'd try to maintain even that speed for the distance that guy did.

The report I heard said the guy bragged to the Troopers that the bike could hit 190+. Shocked

Well I did have a GSXR for several years, it was not good for me Shocked , I never went over 140 on the street (actually the Northway). Mine was a short blast between a couple of exits. What amazed me is he went from Ravena to New Paltz in 20 minutes. That cooking! It's about 55 miles Shocked

What great about our bikes is we get our Jolly's at a much slower speed. Our 90 is his 150, I am sure his bike was pretty stable.

See you in June. I can't wait.

His bike may have been but he obvious he was not.

In 1985 I saw an indicted (on the 1100 speedo) 135 MPH on Route 10 (a Canadian Interstate highway.)

I was holding 100 MPH for a long time and Porsche's and Mercedes kept blowing by me so I gave chase for a few minutes. Flat on the gas tank and with my Panniers I could run up to my rev-limiter in 4th gear then into 5th where it would barely hold speed then began to loose some. Without the bags it would have pulled 5th I am pretty sure. Enough for me!

What fucking right did that cop have pursuing the bike? A bike at 166 is way safer than any cruiser at even 100! Sorry, but two wrongs do not make a right! That cop could have radiod ahead

Without a pursuit, he couldn't make a charge of evasion stick. Radioed ahead? Why, so they, too, could watch him blow by and not pursue either? I'm not sure about your safety conclusions, but there are places where high-speed pursuits are not engaged. Whether as a matter of law or policy, I don't know.

Just the fact that he was pursued from Albany to New Paltz indicates that he was flying and refused to pull over. BTW I think SUZUKIRMZ717 comments were meant to be sarcastic.
