Honestly... There should be a sticky noob thread with stuff like this. Unless you folks like trolling the new guys. I don't mind. Hazing is always apart of initiation.
Sounds like honda 20-50 h4 will work just fine. Thanks. |

Edwardsr99 - It all started on the internet some years ago with this picture:
And since then, it has been used for all sorts of other things, just replacing "masturbate" with various other activities that get done over and over again, like discussing oil in motorcycle (or car) forums.
Oil opinions and recommendations seem to work this way: Ask 5 people, and you'll get 7 different answers. Same goes for tires.
Personally, I've used a variety of oils in my vehicles. When I had a 750F, I was using Walmart Synthetic 10W40. Some people will tell you that car spec oils will mess up your wet clutch. Others will tell you that they've had no problems. I'm one of the "no problems" people. Heck, I currently use synthetic heavy-duty truck oil in my Concours. (Shell Rotella T6 5W40) Before that, I was using Walmart 10W40 synthetic. The bike has 51k miles and runs great. No clutch issues. And I do my oil changes at 6k miles. (Or more, if I am procrastinating.) |

that's pretty much what I use. Honda HP4. 10-40 in the liquid cooled and 20-50 in the air cooled.
Go with what you like, change it often and you'll have no issues. |

There is no hazing......There are over a hundred oil threads, tire threads, pod threads, spark plug threads etc......
10w40 Honda GN4 is what I use......
You then say you have been a fan of Honda oil all along so why ask?

Then again I think the new software eliminates that one. |

I'm a big fan of Castrol and use it in the cars, trucks mowers etc. But for a bike I would prefer to use their motorcycle specific oils instead.

not that there is anything wrong with the hypuron. It's just that motorcycle specific oils have a different additive package for wet clutch and gear boxes. |

Once again I will share a story....I put some Mobil 15w40 I had laying around in my Warrior quad a few months back and almost immediatley the clutch started slipping in third gear. Changed it out to Honda GN4...and it immediately started to grab again...never seen anything like it.
You must use motorcycle specific oil for wet clutch. The End.

I'm with you Jebby.
But if you didn't ride your bike much how would know if your clutch was slipping or not? |

In a related story. I started to believe the synthetic LOS and did not want to jump in all at once. So I tried the semi synthetic Valvoline Durablend in the drag bike. This is the one with a lock-up clutch as well and it immediatly LOST 60 ft time indicating the clutch slipping and LOST trap speed indicating not as good a lubrication as my standard oil,Valvoline Racing Oil. Now the newer racing oil cannot be used in bikes and the closest blend to what it was is the motorcycle specific Valvoline with the zinc package.
Now since then our standard oil is Royal Purple auto in the cars and MC in the bikes and this stuff picks up performance you can feel. First tried it in the Harley and day and night improvement. So while Mobil can sue RP for advertising what works, the damn Mobil is shit and all advertising. Seem more than my share of blown up engines using Mobil. |

You guys need to do some research on hdeo. It has great shear stability, and most brands including Hypuron are wet clutch compatible. As for tha Castrol motorcycle oil. Put some in my 09 RMZ 450 2 weekends before going riding my first time this year. Never have used it before, had it here, was out of Hypuron, and figured what the hell. Put 10/40 in the bike, and fired it up. Let it idle for 2 minutes, no revving it at all. Shut it off, let it sit for 3 minutes, then removed the oil level inspection screw... FOAM!!!! that oil was full of air bubbles! Out it came, and I stayed home! Never have I seen air in Hypuron, Rotella, Motul, or Bel Ray |
