I'm gettin' old and everyone here who was young back in the heyday of these classic early Superbike treasures are too.
Just wondering if anybody has considered what will become of your bike or bikes when you are no longer capable of enjoying them.
I've decided, after a long talk with my wife & sons, to have my bikes destroyed by them.
Dismantled, sledge hammered, sawzalled into pieces, torched and the remains buried. (That is, if I don't wreck/crash them myself somewhere along the way.)
Reasoning: I just can't bear the thought of them being hacked, modified and rattle canned into a twisted vision of todays restless youth, a.k.a. some badass cafe/ghetto/grunt project.
Extreme?

I rather be mummified and burried in a glass tomb with my bike, on the top of the hill with a view on my favorite highway |

Only 14 y/o when these first appeared so plan on outlasting their operational life. If I don't succede in being Peter Pan, I'm sure the family will pass them on cheap to someone deserving - i've benefited from a few hand-downs along the way so would like that to continue you can't take it with you and it ain't going to matter a whole lot after you've gone because you won't know.... |

I don't care what anyone does with any of it once I'm gone. If someone get's some enjoyment out of any part of it, it won't be any of my business what they do with their property anyhow. To think any differently seems arrogant and totally egotistical to me. |

I think destroying something because you cant use it anymore is very negative, & almost seems to be a bit of a tantrum.
When one passes away, it is more natural to leave your possesions behind to be of use to the next generation, your children.
This can either be selling the item for cold hard cash, or using the the item & having the joyful memories of the loved one that has passed.
Have a rethink, as while our bikes are our babies; for me, they have very little influence when the matters of people passing away becomes topical.
If you do still hold those thoughts, as what you feel is right to do, then your choice is made as you are entitled to.

I think I would sell them and roll the $$$ into an RV and continue to enjoy the open road.
If I miss the wind in my fact too badly, I'll mock up a Corbin seat and handlebars on a trailer and throw my leg over it.
MMMMM,, scratch that idea |

NorCal, a lot of the upgrades on your beauty were based on the Honda Superbikes from 30 years ago.
Why not leave yours around as a basis for another customizer 30 years from now. |

I want mine to be sold. That way when they ride them out to Bars or event's people will say to them. That's Tattoo's ole bike isn't it? That will piss them off and make me proud. At least they will say that for a while until they really change them. |

Ya, you better have it chopped up. Some young idiot may hack it up and put a mono shock set up, swap out the stock motor, non CBF wheels, forks, swingarm etc on your classic beauty.
These young morons just cant appreciate a classic muscle bike and leave it alone.
I think if I sat down and had "a long talk with my wife and sons" and told them to destroy a 5 to 10 thousand dollar peice of equipment because I may not agree with what "may" happen to it at some future time, my wife would call an ambulance. She would then probably look into my eyes and say "honey, the fact that you took the time to think over such a self absorbed, egotistical topic may be a sign of a deeper rooted problem", "You feelin Ok"?? |

You know when I was reading his post I was thinking of you. But I will say at least your bike wasn't a pristine totally stock bike. What you did is ok with me. |

Gee tat, I hope you caught the ultimate irony in my post. He is worried about someone hackin up a bike that has already been hacked far beyond most every bike on this site, albiet in a very professional way, but hacked non-the less in the eyes of a purist. His logic is freakin baffling. |

But when I was reading his post I was thinking of all the hell you got when you first came on here. You have a really nice looking bike now. You have learned a lot. |

Hey no worries. Ya gotta start some where.
And dont be fooled, I am still a hack.
The whole premise of his post is obviously to start a rant fest and unfortunately I ran right into it.
Hey, its cold and snowin, why not!!
It is just refreshing to see all the responses basically saying "ya, OK Norcal"!!! |

My son has spent seat time on my bike and taken it to bike nights and on group rides with his friends.
I trust he'll enjoy it as much if not more than I have. And if he wants to burn it down I'm ok with that too. |

My 16 year old son and I are almost done with the 1100F restore...he wants all my bikes so the issue is non existent. With the project my son has developed respect for the "old" air cooled engines as well as a hard on for the "new" stuff. The respect factor is what I was hoping would come out of the 1100 project. Afetr 2 1/2 years and hours in the garage I think my mission is acomplished. BTW, my daughter wants a couple of my bikes as well..... |

You can't stand to see them modified yet you can watch them being completely destroyed?

Your bike is a work of mechanical art, it would be a crying shame to destroy it. You mentioned sons, pass them along to your sons an option? |

LMFAO
Hubby " When I die I want you to sell all my stuff at once and destroy what can't sell"
Wifey" Why would you want me to do that Henry"
Hubby " Cuz I don't want some other asshole using my tools or riding my bikes if you remarry!!"
Wifey " What makes you think I'd marry another ass hole??"
When I die I don't think I'll give a shit about my earthy belongs. There will be a ducati waiting for me in heaven with a team on mechanics to maintain it and endless twistys with soft shoulders to land on when I pass the limit.... |

I built the first Honda CR480 twin shock bike in 04 there are others after I showed it could be done. (83 480 motor in 80 CR250 chassis) I have thought of this. Why would you want to destroy what you built? My bike turned out so nice that it looks like it rolled off of Hondas assembly line. I would be happy that someone was riding it. Its kind of like Honda and other factories destroying the race bikes? Why like they had some secret that no one else ever knew of.
That is big headed and way too much EGO!
My two cents, JJAM |

Mine will go to my youngest son (25 yo). He bought my black 750 and has a real interest in these bikes. I've had at least one for as long as he can remember. He was riding a CB1000rr before being deployed to Cuba. He has since sold that to another Navy man. He found that "everyone" his age is riding a water cooled something and he wants to be a little different than the rest.
The Black CB750 will be a good bike for him. He will take care of it and the others. I have a couple grandsons now that are starting with the mini bikes, go carts and buggies. I'm sure they will be taken care of when I'm gone. |

My kids have all been putting "dibs" on different bikes of mine. My oldest son (33) has the habit of speaking without thinking and has said a couple of times "I can't wait to get this bike!"... He says the same thing about my '63 split window Corvette too. Since I've know him all my life, I give him the benefit of the doubt about what he really means to say! I just make sure I don't walk in front of his truck when he's sitting in it.
The only bike I really care about is my bought new '79 CBX; I'd like to talk one of my kids into turning it into house art where it just sits inside, hopefully without slobbering little great-grandkids scratching it all up.
But - since I won't be here to baby sit any of them, hopefully someone else will get to enjoy them as much as I did, and if I get my way it'd be my kids before anyone else. |

Once gone or on the way out are your bikes your biggest concern? I pray I have more to think about than someone else riding my bike that was sold to pay for my burial.
Its only a hunk of metal, plastic and rubber. Sure it carries personal and sentimental value but its still an inanimate object.
I hope mine get sold for halfway decent money just to show the surviving wife that they're not useless hunks of junk that no one would want as she claims. |

and would enjoy it in a manner that would suit you.....

My RD400 is set aside for one son and my CB400/4 for the other son, as soon as they get their lives established and have their own homes.
They'll do sensible stuff with my other bikes, too. |
