any one ever used EZ Pass I zoom from a car on their cycle

I am considering traveling on the toll road, has any one ever used their car toll road transponder on the cycle??

here in NY city a bike pays less money then a car to cross a bridge,I think it will work but you will get charged a car fee not a bike fee.

The EZ Pass tag is only valid for vehicles registered to that specific account. If you call to register a motorcycle to your account, they will send you a specific tag for that bike.

Not to get totally off the subject, but just some fair warning to those of you who rent cars, more for the business guys then the vacationer.

ez pass charges that come with your rental car are not added to your rental car bill, they come as a separate bill (usually a month after your trip).

Also had a rental car I used for a business trip, rented here in Mi and traveled to Wi, via Ill.

The car was equipped with ez pass (I did not know it) and I was paying tolls (just easier on expence accounts), low and behold I get a bill for all the tolls in Ill (good thing I keep copies of reciepts)

Legally, you need to add the motorcycle to the EZ Pass account. You will pay the higher car rate.

Reality, you can use the auto EZ Pass on the motorcycle and no one will say boo. But you will still pay the higher car rate!

This got me thinking. Does easy pass know when you have a trailer and charge for it? I think it does.

I received a fine / notice in the mail from the Tollroad Company that I had violated the toll booth with no transponder and with a vehicle NOT registered with the Tollroad. The license plate number referenced was from my KX500 off-road bike that I have plated. Oh, really?

Turns out I was hauling it in the back of my truck which has a Tollroad transponder. On the occasion when the transponder does not work, the Tollroad Company uses a camera to capture the vehicle plate. Somehow it captured my bike plate instead of the truck plate, and they traced it to me. When I called and resolved the situation, I figured they could send me a copy of the photo as that would be a cool thing to have. They did not share my sentiment.

It was the same with the rental car I had. I had to fax them every receipt I had for the tolls, Credited card, but no oops our bad

We have something similar here in the Bay area but I don't even bother using the transponders. You just register your vehicles in the system and then when you go through a toll booth it will take a picture of your license plate and then charge your account. It's really convienient and on some bridges you even get a discount for using the system.

Look on the EZ Pass website. I know there must be a weight sensor or axle counter because I get charged more when hauling a trailer behind my truck............................

I think there is an axle counter. We use our ezpass(NJ) with or without our trailer and switch it between cars and do not have any problems. The bill is always correct. As for the bike.... if you think I'm going to ride on the Mass Pike or I95 in New York with my bike, you are crazier than I am.

Yes, I have used it on a few occasions. I just take the one out of my car and put it in my tankbag, before I get through the gates, I take it out and set it on top of the tankbag and go right through. If I am not using a map, I just leave it behind the clear plastic. It is easier than stopping at the ticket reader and pulling the ticket out of your pocket, then pulling out your wallet and putting it and the change back in your pocket. It is a P.I.T.A. without it, plus they charge around twice as much when paying cash.

In MA's FastLane system, you can add any number or mix of vehicles to a transponder, or you can get as many transponders as you want. Bikes get charged the same as cars since they have the same # of axles. I know that it works in MA, NY and NH, but have not tested it elsewhere.

In MA, if you do not use the transponder, the video shot is taken like in CA, and you are charged the toll, but there is also a $1.00 administrative fee added for each "video toll". You still get the discount however for using the FastLane pass.

I have found that the transponders work better in some lanes than others and the best performance is achieved when I wear the transponder in an armband pack that I made. Usually the lane sees me and charges the proper toll. Sometimes it sees me but does not like me and charges the video toll. And sometimes it doesn't see me at all and charges nothing. I really don't like paying the $1 video fee when THEIR equipment doesn't work, but I figure the free rides I get balance out.
