Testarossa's 1982 CB750F

How do you start the first post of a build thread? I'm bad at this. Everything I think of sounds cliche. Ahh who cares, lets dive into the old bike. As some of you may remember, I introduced myself a couple of weeks ago. I got home with this 1982 CB750F, and stuck it in the garage until now. Been kinda busy.

Just about everything is here, and the bike has been stored inside, but not tagged since 1993. It's got 22,800 miles on the clock. The bad news is that it was parked with some amount of 1993 vintage gasoline left in the tank. Nothing new there. I have a tank with half a gallon of super funky gas + rust in there. Here's a picture of the old girl with her new roomates:

Now on to the plan. Since this bike is so complete, I cannot find a good reason to do anything other than a original type restoration. Not sure if this bike is valuable enough to undertake a concourse type resto or not. What is the consensus on that? I figure that it's not in that category yet, so I'll probably use a mix of reproduction and OEM parts. Hurry up and set me straight if I need to become a rivet counter. I do like customized bikes (see my KZ1000) so there may be some reversable period correct mods done. Not sure about this yet.

Step one is to try and evaluate what I have to work with. I just started removing the gunk out of the fuel tank this evening. Here's what I got out so far:

Also, I tore into the carbs tonight. I find it easier when working with unfamiliar, multi-carb bikes to do two at a time. That way if you get confused, you can refer to the other carbs for re-assembly. What I would like to do is get the carbs clean, and try to start the bike after some catch up maintenance. Clean carbs, oil change, check valve clearances, timing chain tension, check the condition of the ignition components. I figure with that stuff in order, I can at least get it to start. It would be nice to make sure it runs before I really get an idea of what course I'm on. Anyway, the carbs have some tenacious varnish in the bowls. Two of them are soaking in the parts washer tonight.

Nice looking bike, good luck with it.

Be sure to renew all the fuel tube o-rings and get all the rust out of the tank.
A gas welding tip cleaner is perfect for cleaning the jets.
a fuel filter will help keep any residual rust flakes out once you get the carbs back on and get it running.

The best thing you can do to these bikes is add a sport kit, in my opinion.

Then fill it with premium and wring it's neck!

Nice kaw you got there. I'd like to see some more pics of that. You can do similar w/ the 9f. CBR 600f2 wheels & brakes will improve handling & give better rubber selection. An 11f swinger or 82/83 gs swinger is an easy mod too. Corbin seat will lwr the center of G. Search & read & you shall find. beerchug

Haha looks like a little more than spit and polish. Sweet looking bike, looks like it would handle real well. Seems like it sits lower than a F but it's hard to tell without them sitting side by side.

the sportkit sets the pegs further back for a more comfortable riding position,lower bars and right side switch that routes throttle cables out the top of switch housing so the cables dont hit your tank
