Great! I've found that charging problems can be traced to one or more of these items: rotor, stator or R/R. I get Tim Parrot to rewind the rotors, Electrosport stator and R/R. They claim that the stator has a 10-15% charging capacity over stock. The R/R is built to handle the increase.

I once called Electrosport and pressed them on this claim and they could not substantiate it, and over the phone they finally abandoned it and admitted that does not do any better than stock. I was really ticked.

Interesting Peter. I haven't done any formal testing but as you know I have a VDO voltmeter on the bike. With the Electrosport stator and R/R installed, the full charging voltage (14.4V) is reached sooner, and with lights on (including front and rear running lights) along with my heated apparel, the battery sees 14.4V above 2500 RPM. My stock stator and R/R didn't reach 14V till 3500 RPM and chocked with the heated apparel. I have no idea if the Electrosport stator is better - perhaps because of Tim Parrot's rewound rotor??

Electrosport stator didn't do diddly for my kz550. Same charging behavior as stock.

Charging problem not fixed. According to my meter I have a bad stator. I get no continuity between the yellow wires, which according to what I've read means a broken winding inside the stator. Is this correct?

There should be continuity from any yellow to any other yellow, actually a certain resistance. There should be NO continuity from any yellow to the ground/stator stack.

Any bad stator fails one of those tests. Either one(or more) of the three phases is open circuit. Or has overheated to the point the insualtion burned up and shorted to the ground.

Thanks for the input, at least the stator not to bad to replace nor to expensive.
