Well now that the 750 is done and will probably see it's last ride of the season this week-end I thought I might show you where the 900 is heading. There is a ton more work to do on this project including a full engine rebuild and custom frame and machine work so I will try and document the build along the way. I am spreading it out over 4-5 months as the funds allow and shooting for a late April reveal. Should be fun.
Cheers!

My mouth is already watering just lookin at that frame / fork / wheel / tank combo. Now give up some details. What are forks / wheels / swingarm from? Can't wait to see how this baby turns out!!
Have fun. |

Yeah, what's the swinger from? Is it one that's a straight swap and has been done on the site, or is it something you're just gonna make work any which way you have to? I mean, I'm sure you could stick whatever swinger you want into that frame. With the right "frame" of mind. I just want to know if I can steal your idea, ha ha. No, but seriously. I want to steal your idea.
I've been looking all over fleabay at different swingarms, found a great site with aftermarket swingers I haven't seen before
http://www.overracing.com/shop/shop.php?s_keyword=cb750fa%2Fb%2Fc
and the cost/benefit comparison to what's out there on fleabay, well it really helps to price out the aftermarket stuff doesn't it? I want a sort of "period" look, an easy fit, (I have enough to do as it is) yet I want a beefy aluminum swinger with the same diameter of axle. Because I already bought the wheel, ha ha. Whoops! That one you've got there looks nice and beefy. Four or five months hey? Wow. I look forward to following this build thread, your 750 turned out gorgeous!

@ctluba - front end is a 2006 GSXR600 set-up, rear is F4i complete. Shock mount will be modified to run a R6 shock and custom mounts made for the top. It's no where near a bolt on affair. The swingarm is wider than the frame and will need to be milled down and I am unsure if I will modify the frame to use the larger swingarm mount or make bushings and re-use the 900 pivot bolt.
@SoyBoySigh - Those is some very nice swingarms you've found there but way out of my price range.
Getting this bike to be a true roller is the first priority. I will be placing the engine in the frame to measure up the sprocket alignment with the swingarm, figure out what needs shaving where and have at it. It's nice having a buddy with a CNC machine in his garage.

Yeah, that's my point. Overpriced. The stuff off the modern bikes, the cheap second hand bits, whoever thought that up was a genious. Better parts for pennies on the dollar? Hmm, let me think....

COOL, I forgot all about this build. So what direction ya thinkin?? cafe, fighter, super bike, muscle bike???
Keep the pics comin
Also, how involved was mounting that gixxer front end? Did it involve lenghtening / shortening the steering stem and then just bolting it up. Which bearings do you use, gixxer or 900F, any machining involved? I would think that you just use a gixxer front wheel correct?
Thanx |
