There seems to be a pervasive (some might say pernicious) opinion that the red 1100Fs are faster than the blue ones. I suppose it must have something to do with the drag coefficients of red pigment vs. blue pigment at speed. But, I have not read anything about which US 900F is faster, the black one or the silver one. Since I just purchased a black one I'm hoping that the answer is that the black is faster. Does anyone know? (Sonicrete, just so you know, I tried, but couldn't find anything in the search function that gave me the answer.)

Since I was battling with two other guys using Z-1 Kawasakis, knocking the D-Stock record faster and faster,I will say me. Charlie Allen was riding it and ran 12.37 @108 at which point everybody in Super Eliminator protested that pass. All politics due to substitute rider, still passed fuel and weight and was a legal pass. Motor was dead stock except for the Carrillo conrods and strengthening was allowed. This is stock pipes, stock airbox, street tire,no airshifter.

The bike was black.

I'm not only convinced that silver is the fastest, but MY silver 900F is the fastest ever! Wink

Ahem, I have a Silver 9 that's faster here in Abq. Less wind drag, less gravity (5000 ft altitude).

I could add superior rider skills, but you all know that's a bogus claim...

Rick,

I think that you would realize upon close inspection, that mine is very fast just to look at it.

Next time you're up this way, you must stop by to witness true speed!

The 900's were made in the following colours;

Silver
Gunmetal
Candy Red
Candy Blue
White
Red/white
Black

It is simply a statement of fact that the black are the fastest.

No clear consensus so far. Silver leads the vote in the Northern Hemisphere by 4 to 3. Black seems to be fastest in the Southern Hemisphere for some reason. Magnetic fields?

I am confused. The bike Freddie Spenser raced and won with was indeed silver. It however was not 900cc,closer to 1025cc the rules limit at the time. More than likely was a 750 bored/sleeved to 72.5mm which would be 1023.8cc. Common pistons for over bore are even mm sizes and 72mm becomes 1010cc. Honda could make anything they wanted though. It was about this time that the 750 stroke won out over the 900 stroke at the same size limit.

So my bike was actually a 750 with a stock 900 motor in it. No one knew the difference in Hondas. The carbs, pipe, airbox, internal engine was what was checked.

Since the bodywork can be changed easily really an odd comparison, but my bike was black when it set and backed up the record for a "D" Stock 900cc bike.

Whoa!!?!? Unless you're racing into high orbit, I'm not sure how much of an advantage you'd get from less gravity. If anything, I could see how the lower gravity of NM would cut your traction and make you slower.

By the way, gunmetal grey is the fastest.

Altitude you lose power. Quite a bit at 5000 ft. Just sea level to 1000 ft is a significant loss.

Calculation says 15% from sea level to 5000 ft.

If the imperfections in the surface of your black paint which make it flat are significant enough to cause turbulence in the boundary layer of the fluid flow around the body, the Reynolds number of the flow would be increased, thereby reducing the drag coefficient. So, ctluba, you may be able to prove your hypothesis with hard science.

So then, if we take some sandpaper to our paint we'd all go faster?

Well, it's the reason golf balls have dimples, so maybe a ball-peen hammer would be more effective. We just need someone to test the theory.

It’s not surface friction but the radiant heat caused by black absorbing solar UV rays that creates turbulence. This may explain why in the sunshine of the southern states the black bikes are faster.

Fella's;

The Superbikes were, mostly, 900F engines in 750F frames. There were several variations on the theme though. There were frames with the removeable section welded in to reduce frame flexing. And in the same vein, the stock rubber sandwich engine mount spacers were always replaced with solid units, aluminum & steel. There were offset steering head bearing sets to alter the rake. It is highly likely that there were chrome-moly thin wall frames that couldn't visually be told from a "stocker". There were heads that had the included valve angle narrowed, spring pockets rewelded in, etc., and I've seen that one with the mark 1 eyeball.

My 900F is black. And it's pretty quick too.

Blue is faster.

Looking at the Doppler shift affect in the light frequency spectrum everyone knows that red is at the lower range of the spectrum and blue is close to the maximum shift in the spectrum. Everyone knows that frequency is a multiplication function of energy available to perform. When we look at the universe, we know that the blue shifted stars are traveling much faster than the red shifted stars. Pure physics.

This combined with the obvious love, affection, and special attention the factory workers placed on the beautiful blue bikes coming down the assembly line (as compared to the less appealing red bikes) we can prove a mathematical hypothesis that blue will always be better and faster than red.

Also:

Realize that color only exists in our brains. Our eyes are light frequency detectors that send signals to our brain, and our brain decides how to communicate within itself to differentiate these spectrums. Our ancestors brains assigned significance to certain spectrums, and those that survived had an inherent merit to these assignments. More importantly, those that had not assigned significance to certain spectrums perished.

The end result is most of us humans are able to see a huge variety of what our brain has decided are colors. This ability varies within the human race based on evolution duration in different environments, and there are still genetic defects such as color blindness that are within our DNA and inflict some humans. Of course, all of earths creatures have brains that evolved with their own unique association to different light frequencies and we should never assume that we have anything in common with another creature when it comes to color perception.

As far as Red vs. Blue; The light frequencies associated with what most of our brains have decided are the blue color spectrum are very, very high, therefore contains substantial energy, and travel very fast. The light frequencies associated with what most of our brains have decided are the red color spectrum are very, very low, therefore contains very little energy, and travel slowly.

As to the significance of painting an object one color vs. the other, we must consider why our survival has required our brains to decide to differentiate the light frequencies in the first place by assigning them such different color spectrums.

There are not a lot of things that our brains perceive as blue in nature, but the most obvious is the beautiful sky above us. Why this sensitivity has led to our survival is a mystery but it is my belief that an appreciation for beauty in the mating process gained leverage over others who had no such appreciation.

In comparison, there are many, many things that our brains perceive as red in nature, but the most obvious involves a certain part of the female anatomy that is directly associated with mating. This association has a direct impact on the mating actions of the male portion of the human species, and such action once triggered, has little if any regard for beauty.

So if your thing is to paint things red, even though it is associated with slow things of low energy, we can only derive it is due to unique associations, or deprivations within your own brain, but who are we to judge?

As for me, my choice is to use something associated with high energy, fast, and beauty. Hopefully there is some very nice selective use of red in appropriate locations.

As far as black, that requires a separate dissertation.

... what Stoutblock said ...!

I was also going to add:

Quote:
Blue is not only the fastest, but the coolest! All of your other colours are very nice and I'm sure you are all very happy with them, but fundamentally you've made the wrong choice ... Very Happy

But I thought that might be too provocative ... Shocked

It isn't so much as to whether or not we can match or beat your acceleration, it's our distinct doubt that your bizzare contraption can corner at all.

We're not talkin' specialized single-purpose stuff, but the whole integrated CB900F. Which includes performance parameters like cornering and stopping, as well as acceleration.

Black and orange = Halloween Power!

See, somebody who knows what he is talking about!!!!!!

Clif, I have read all the scientific journals and studies on this topic (Fastest CBF color). The experts have all concluded that black is the fastest!! Then, in 1976 I believe, NASA performed several independant studies which confirmed, within 99.99999999999% accuracy, that FLAT BLACK is the fastest. Based upon this information, I would have to say that my "hypothesis" is indeed, scientific fact, proven by hard science.

If all that info isnt proof enough, the New England Journal of Medicine recently featured an article on the subject. They found that if two male subjects, of similar build and stature, had a race on CBF's of differing colors, approximately 25 minutes after consuming one cup of vanilla yogurt purchased at stop and shop on a monday after 3:00pm, that the subject riding the FLAT BLACK CBF won every time!!!

Now, unless you can bring some DOCUMENTED material to this arguement that is stronger than the DOCUMENTED stats that I just refered to, I believe this arguement is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cool
