New guy looking in Louisville, KY

Just a quick introduction for my first post. I just bought the beast below which is lucky to get 9 mpg (it has a 460). This pathetic mileage may be my ticket to getting a bike. My first bike was an 84 GPz 550 which I bought new. At the time my roommate had a CB1100F that I used to ride a lot. I sold my GPz in 85 and then went bikeless for over 20 years. A few years back I bought a 250 Ninja thinking that I could get great mileage and still have fun. Well the mileage was great but the fun ran out quickly. Nothing like having to downshift twice just to get out of a corner on a country road. I sold the Ninja and would now like to get either a CB1100F (first choice) or (gasp) a ZRX1100 or ZRX1200. Help convince me to get the Honda (or at least help me find a good one please Smile

).

Welcome! And get the Honda. I can't speak for the other bikes mentioned but you will absolutely love the Honda. I've been having my 1100 for a couple years now and I still get a thrill every time I ride it . It's torque is felt no matter what gear your in . In 5 th you can pull away from 25, 30 mph. It handles great . I'm really starting to come into my own in the handling dept. With a little body English you can tear up some curves. It's smooth engine wise. I can ride this thing all day. One of the things I really like is when I'm stopped somewhere and someone will want to know what kind of bike it is. Or they haven't seen one in a long time and say what a great looking bike it is . I never get tired of that . I would suggest to find yourself a good one in good shape that you don't have to work on . One you can just get on and ride from day one .For the obvious reason you want to ride and not wrench. Also the replacement body parts if missing can be expensive and sometimes hard to find. Cause this bike was only imported for one year . And that's what makes it so desirable . So take your time look around . You'll come across a good one. Good luck Wink

Good question and thanks for asking. I posted in the for sale/wanted section that I am not looking for a project but that I don't expect perfection either. Any bike I buy will get ridden a lot and get to sleep in the garage. Can anyone post what a realistic price range is for stock crappy, stock ok, stock real nice, slighted modded, etc bikes would go for by chance? Thanks!

How determined are you to get an 1100?

I raced this engine for years and collected lots of them. Now I want to thin the herd.

I built a special 955cc bike out of an original 750. Has a bunch of frame strengthing,900 swing arm and 900 wheels. I have a 900 front end to go with it but not mounted yet. Motor has special aluminum rods I made with 17mm wrist pin. 70mm bore,ported 1100 head,1100 cams,1100 carbs,1100 airbox,1100 transmission. Accel coils,new "O" ring chain,AGM battery,bunch of other stuff including the stock engine,extra sprocket carriers,the stock 750 wheels. Has 150mph speedo and the stock 85 mph one comes with it. Real special merge collector short primary pipe and a tricone megaphone as well as a muffled single taper one. It has the big petcock tank and I will throw in another one as well.

It is ready to run has license,insurance,and if was not winter you can ride it. If you look around I can throw in a bunch of other stuff as well. I just plain have too many bikes. This bike was the stock 900 record bike when it had a stock 900 engine in it. It is the motor tester chassis for the race engines. I priced it at $2000 OBO and I know the first person that rides it will buy it. Just too many parts to really list them all.

Just updated my wanted post to indicate that I have reached a verbal agreement on a bike. Thought I'd mention over here that I never seriously looked for a ZRX as I was planning to. The more time I spent here looking at pics and reading road trip stories I knew I had to get the Honda. Of course y'all knew that was gonna happen anyways... Wink
